This movie sends a terrible message

That only a mother or a blind person can love you if you're ugly. Otherwise it's prostitute city!

reply

It wasn't trying to send a message. it was biographical. That's what happened to him in real life.

reply

Was that really the message though? If I remember correctly everyone ends up loving Rocky, even if they are at first put off by his appearance, his humour and huge heart win them over in the end. The fact that all these tough biker guys in his mother’s circle protect him and treat him like a prince seemed to suggest the opposite message than you got from this one.

reply

Well, the truth is that most people would be uncomfortable if they met someone with a deformed skull.
No matter how sad that is, it is hardly surprising.

reply

But, like this film suggests, people can adapt to most anything. A non-blind woman having the courage to marry Rocky is another matter. It's sort of like how heterosexuals feel about transsexuals. Maybe in theory being with one sounds plausible, but in practice it's another story entirely.

reply

Well it’s true, I had cancer and because of that I lost all my hair and look extremely weird.

Walk down the street and look around you. Would you like to see 95% of those people naked? The world is full of not-so-beautiful people. I think people look down on extremes like Rocky just to feel better about themselves.

But your point about the blind girl is a salient one. Should Rocky have backed off? It was sort of taking advantage of her.

reply

Is it wrong?
