Should this be a candidate for a remake?

I'm not usually one that likes remakes, especially ones of films I love so dearly such as this one. But as incredible as this film is, it has aged horribly and has probably a bit too much of that 80's cheese to see the story through for more generations to watch.

Thoughts?

No. This movie is a product of the time it was made in. However, the general premise of the romance novelist getting swept up into adventures with a stud would make a terrific tv series.

Replace 80's cheese with sanctimonious current SJW preaching?

NO.

The film revolves around a hapless female being saved by a man.

You simply couldn't have a story like this anymore. They would turn the woman into Tomb Raider and the man (unless non white) would be a complete klutz who puts her in danger more than he saves her.

Too bad the user deleted the name but this is spot on.

Not only that, but there was already a semi-satirical remake starring Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum, and of course he's the typical useless klutz and even though she's a novelist, she still has to buck up and become an action hero.

They just can't make women, women in today's films.

I think there was a remake planned. But I hadn't heard much about it.

Sequel a nice trilogy

NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

Never remake films that are unexpectedly good, movies like this one that start with a fairly ordinary coming-out-of-the-shell story, and which are so perfect in every detail that they become classics. Any remake would be bound to disappoint!

No, the best movies to remake are the ones that had a good idea, but which could have been better done. Like, you know, "The Hobbit".

"it has aged horribly"?

How? Because they're not constantly on cell phones? Because they don't say "fuck" enough times? Because a third-world shithole is depicted as a third-world shithole?

reply

Yea but this time, lets be more inclusive and have a black woman save a white gay male
