Claire was always telling Cliff and the children what to do every episode. She acted like she could never be wrong. She would always point out Cliff's flaws and boss Denise, Theo, Vanessa, and Rudy around!
There was a comic bit from Cosby’s stand up repetoire called “Chocolate Cake for Breakfast” that plays like a Cosby show episode. Presumably it was based on Cosby’s real wife and their kids, (or least how he liked to portray their life.) The gist is a Dad serves cake to his kids for breakfast. Kids are happy, Dad is the hero, then the Mom comes downstairs and shuts it all down with wrath and fury. From what we know now, it is surprising that Cosby would give the older female character on his show so many unlikeable traits?
That tends to be what it’s like though. Fathers are more fun although when they lay down the law the kids listen.
Mothers tend to be serious all the time. There was an ep of Everybody Loves Raymond where the characters, even the kids are always commenting how “mommy is telling again”.
Yep it is or was a trend with sitcom wives. They all come off as arrogant and look down on their husbands sometimes even appearing to despise their husbands.
