"This house is clean" my ass!

Tangina made the spirits more pissed off by taking Carol Anne away from them!

reply

I don't know if that was intended to retroactively imply that they were quacks or not.

reply

I think it does or may be the beast hide it's presence

reply

I never really understood that part either. Just because she got Carol Anne back didn't mean the house was clean...

reply

What's even more baffling is the Freelings sought out her assistance in "Poltergeist II." Yeah, because she did such a bang up job the first time around.

reply

So true!!! You think they would have learned their lesson the first time!!

reply

While she may have been frighteningly incompetent at her job she did have the movie's best line: "You can't choose between life and death when you're dealing with what's in-between ..."

reply

She got her daughter back, which is probably more than what anyone else could've done. Sure, she was mistaken in thinking the house was clean, but the father even says when initially seeking help that all they really cared about was their daughter, not the "disturbances".

reply

I thought the spirits actually came back or never left because Stephen (the father) let go of the rope too early while Tangina was telling the spirits to "cross over"?

They did get their daughter back? But I think the ceremony was cut off when he let go of the rope?

reply

They didn't.

Tangina sent Taylor in place of her because she didn't trust her instincts anymore.

reply

Why would you stay in the house?

Why take a chance?

Why?

That part annoyed me as well. The rest of the movie up until that point made sense, and then Spielberg dropped the ball, and demoted the entire 3rd act into B movie status. There would be NO WAY the father would leave his family alone in the house after that much less even mess around staying there at all. Let the movers do the work, and stay as far away as possible. I can't say it would have made for a better ending, but it really sucked screaming at the screen WHY!! when the rest of the movie was so good. Oh well, can't have it all i guess. :-)

reply

Yep. Had they just gone to the Holiday Inn like they SAID they were, none of the last 20 minutes would've happened. It made no sense for the mother to say they were gonna go there and then in the very next scene she's getting into the bath tub and telling the kids to tuck themselves in. Huh?

reply

I never really liked Tangina. She kind of annoyed me...

The house was clean in as far as the lost souls crossing over. But when Steven pulled the rope a little too soon, the evil one didn't make it into the light because he was too busy following Carol Anne, trying to stop Steven from taking her, and he ends up crossing over into our side. So he was still there and doing whatever he could to try to get Carol Anne back.
