Escape from New York pisses all over this

You know it and I know it.

Mad Max 1 because it doesn't get good until the end
But Mad Max 2 is better Than Escape from New York

reply

Mel Gibson's Max in this is much better than Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken, who was just doing a Clint Eastwood spaghetti western impression with his voice. I don't dislike Russell at all, not even as Snake, but it came across like a performance. It never felt real.

And I can't think of a single action scene in EFNY that really impressed me, unlike this film where there were countless eye-popping stunts, many of which still hold up now.

It’s American quality VS cheap foreign steel!

reply

Road Warrior is a classic for the ages. EFNY, while entertaining, is forever relegated to cult film status.

reply

Fuck yeah.

'The Road Warrior' is still the greatest action movie of ALL time!

reply

Can you think of a John Carpenter film that has moved out of cult film status? I can't. I like his movies, but none of them have permeated the pop culture landscape.

reply

Agreed, Carpenter had loads of big-budget stuff that should have been hits...But yeah, cult movie-maker through and through.

reply

ROAD WARRIOR & ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK are Both Bonafide classics.. Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome?? Not so much, except for the Thunderdome scene

reply

Disagree.
Both are iconic action movies starring great tough guy legends.

I say this is a draw.
