Who thinks this has the best fantasy score ever?

Along with LOTR and Star Wars Trilogy and more.

Definitely screams epic.

Might be my favorite ever
Makes me wanna break stuff and hurt people...and im generally against those sorts of things
10/10 !!!

reply

The music is certainly a lot better than the movie.

reply

Yeah...its my favorite movie ever
Smthg about the brutality and action sequences, the doomed romance and crazy evil black magic of Thulsa...man...i love this one!
Anyway, if you care to share what you disliked id be happy to chat :)

Elmer Bernstein's score for the Taarna portion of "Heavy Metal" rivals this one in awesomeness (imo).

reply

Thx
I guess i gotta rewatch that one...been like 20 years at least :(
Ill youtube later thx
Im a fan of a great score!

I need to rewatch "Conan." I saw it about ten years ago and just found it ... dull.

Then again, I was never a huge fan of the source material (though the author's forays into horror like "Pigeons From Hell" are wonderful)

"Superman: The Movie" is another instance, for me anyway, where the score is just totally in a different league than the movie (maybe William's best work).

But, I own the "Conan" soundtrack, and will gladly listen to it in its entirety from time to time. It's not just one of the best fantasy scores: it's one of the best scores period.

Just youtubed about 4 minutes of the Taarna ep of Heavy Metal...yeah that was good stuff
Kinda reminded me of Conan the Destroyer music when they kill the glass wizard lol
Thx AngularTurnip

Elmer Bernstein's complete "Heavy Metal" soundtrack is on Youtube. "The Sword" track is possibly my favorite.

Since "Heavy" came out before "Conan" I wonder if the former had any influence on the latter in any way.

reply

It may have!

The score is operatic with Wagner's fingerprints all over it, and is introduced with shots of Dr. Franco Columbo, Ph.D. in exercise physiology and Arnie's personal trainer, nude to the waist, heavily tattooed and drawing a very big sword.

Point made. Welcome to Planet Single Entendre.

Thx Kane
As is often the case i am wiser for hearing from you-
you are a fine fellow
Im watching Baby-boy Conan's village get destroyed atm...really rough stuff

reply

Yes, in particular the Rottweilers being set on Conan's father, and then the beheading of his mother. Heartbreaking and very rough. I grew up without a family. That is one reason why I can relate myself to this awesome film.

Just one.

reply

Again...i thank you Kane
Conan is escaping soon !!!

reply

It was pretty good.

Jerry Goldsmith's Total Recall theme from 1990 is very much like the main theme of this movie. It's the first thing I noticed.

It’s interesting that John Boorman also chose Wagner’s music for the soundtrack to Excalibur, a masterpiece of honor and testosterone that ranks with the Millius/Stone Conan.

reply

Definite thumbs up all the way!!!

I think I do prefer the Lord of the Rings soundtrack - but not by much. Conan's music is astoundingly good.
