Why was Vader obsessed with chasing the Falcon when he didn't know who was on board?

He recalled that ship on the Death Star in episode 4

Actually he did know.
Ya see, when he was a kid building 3PO he put in a tracer.
Then he saw his old robot buddy was on board and wanted to reclaim him.
Then the tracer got damaged when 3PO went to pieces on Cloud Nine so Daddy Darth did not know that was him when Han was going to the pits which is why DD did not say, "Hey 3PO. S'up?"

He had no idea where Luke went after Hoth. It was possible that he was on the Falcon. But even if he wasn't Vader knew that Luke was friends with Solo and if he captured Solo then he could use them as bait to draw Luke out of hiding. As luck would have it Leia was onboard too.

He probably sensed the Force in the Falcon assuming it was Luke when it really was Leia who was force sensitive.

That was my guess, that the Force told him someone important and/or force-sensitive was on the Falcon.
