I don't get the hype.

A Clockwork Orange was so much more entertaining. And I like Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider but this was a chore to watch.
Standards have come a long way since the seventies.

It’s one of my favorite movies. I just found it very suspenseful.

reply

Type of picture that is easily understandable that some wouldn't like it. On the other hand others might say it is a classic .

reply

I don't get what's so great about it either. Though I am in the minority not liking A Clockwork Orange. Way too messed up for my taste. But this movie just a typical cop movie. I don't get that just because it's based off a famous corrupt Cop that makes it anymore special. But that's just me.

reply

Was the ending predictable to you? I think at least part of what makes it great is the way it pulls the rug out from under your "typical cop movie" plot.

reply

The ending made the character look dumb imo.

reply

Did you only first watch it recently? Not criticising but sometimes it's harder to get into films from a different era.

reply

I did. Been holding it off for years.

reply

Yeah I also think that sometimes the 70's era films are harder to get into.

reply

I like "Busting" (1974) so the genre isn't new to me. But TFC just didn't click with me.

reply

I saw it like, four years ago or something. It made itself comfortable on my personal Top 20 list after like five minutes. I was afraid it was going to feel old, dated and boring. It was old and dated, but never boring.

reply

It was made in a different era. Before ridiculously over the top car chases and explosions became the norm. Back when audiences appreciated realism in film. And great acting.

reply

The story was very mundane to modern standards. Maybe if I'd seen it in the 90's it would be different.

reply

I believe that. Movies are a product of their time. And, not everyone is going to like every movie, and I know that, as do you. But, being a member of the "Boomer" generation (and proud of it), I saw this film in the theater when it was released, and it was gritty, intelligently acted and directed and with what is considered the best movie car chase ever filmed. I believe that it deserves the accolades it receives.

reply

In other words, this movie was very boring, which it was. The car chase with the train above the tracks was cool but I'd take any Fast and Furious film over this

reply

..we know

reply

I thought it was comfy. I think it might have been too repetitive for you.
