They just put this up on Shudder

Go watch it, you won't be sorry! I don't even like extreme horror and I love this movie.

I liked it a lot too!

Isn't it great?! One of Ken Russell's best.

Which version? How "cut" is it? I see its listed at 108 minutes.

If I understand the confusing info at IMDB, this is the US R rated version which is missing 2 minutes, and further had about 2 minutes of alternate footage?

It's not horror, it's history. Shit like this happened for real, and everyone should know that ordinary human beings are capable of horrors like this, and that this is why injustice and ignorance needs to be fought at every turn.

Harrowing film, and probably the only one of Russell's films that's pure drama and zero camp.

Yes, this is an epic film and it always gave me great respect for Vanessa Redgrave. Back in the day the American media utterly hated the woman. In the 80's Republicans would use Redgrave as a poster child of the left wing crazies. They were brutal.

Great actress and I recommend everyone see "The Devils".

It's funny, because if you think about it, what happens to Father Grandier in the movie is EXACTLY what the Left is trying to do to Donald Trump, albeit politically, rather than religiously.

Pact allegedly signed between Urbain Grandier and the Devil, submitted as evidence during the 1634 Loudun Possession Trial. Also signed by Satan, Leviathan, Astaroth and numerous other demons.

Lol

Left right and in between, human beings are as stupid now as ever.

reply

No, not at all. Donald Trump is the author of his current predicament. Grandier overcame his weakness and became truly Christ-like towards the. By contrast, Trump has learned absolutely nothing and just keeps getting worse and worse. Also, one of the main themes of the film is the separation of church and state, which the GOP has no interest in at all.
