This never happened to the other fellow?

IMO this is a very stupid line.
If he's referring to Sean Connery as a previous agent (meaning they are not the same character) how would he know something like that never happened to the other fellow. If he wasn't referring to Sean Connery then who was he talking about?
This movie doesn't make things clear enough which I elaborated on in my previous post.

How dumb are you?

Are you honestly telling me you;ve never heard of a character breaking the fourth wall?

"What color is the boathouse at Hereford!?" 

reply

Yes he's breaking the fourth wall. Very rare for a movie made in the 60's. Lazenby used to say that line a lot during the production of the movie as he was pushed way harder than Connery ever was.

Peter Hunt ended up liking the line so much he suggested to Lazenby that he should look into the camera and say the line.

The rest is 007 history & it always makes me smile/chuckle.

Lazenby, Dalton & Craig ACCEPT NO SUBSTITUTES!

You're gonna love GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE 2.

Seriously, though, it wasn't a good idea to have that as one of his 1st lines. Getting used to seeing someone other than Sean Connery was already hard enough.

reply

When I first saw it, I thought it was a reference to Prince Charming since Tracy runs away and leaves her shoe behind Cinderella style.

That's what I have always thought first.

The only problem with that is, what DOES he mean when he says "this never happened to the other fellow" if he was referring to Prince Charming, that is? 'Cause the scene plays out exactly like how it did in Cinderella: girl runs off, leaving shoe behind. Was he referring to the fact that she was driving?

reply

No, Bond referred to the fact that he got into a fist fight and was tried to be killed. That never happened to the other fella.

reply

You are really stupid.

The line was a double-entendre. Of course it was wink toward Sean Connery. But the line itself was literally directed at the story of snow white where the prince finds the shoe of the woman he has fallen for. Please don't have children. We already have enough people on welfare.

Enough said

Honestly this line never bothered me. I usually don't like actors breaking the fourth wall, but in this case, it was more a humor thing towards connery's bond and a passing of the torch (which was short lived).

reply

Literally directed at a story?

I love this actually - Classic IMDb. Not only did this dude say something utterly stupid having called the OP stupid, he also got his Princesses mixed up! And to further compound his idiocy, that is EXACTLY what happened to the other fella in the correct fairy tale, therefore making the explanation incorrect as well!

reply

No, Bond got into fist fight and was tried to be killed. That never happened to the other fella in the fairy tail.

reply

Yes, the fairytale Cinderella.

The one where she leaves her slipper behind, like Tracy in OHMSS. The "other fella" in that story didn't get beaten by some random thugs...

reply

You rang?

reply

I believe that Lazenby must be a different "James Bond" to Sean Connery.

Purely coincidental that they both held the 007 rank.

reply

and have the same name?

reply

You are taking a James Bond movie much too seriously.

reply

He’s breaking the 4th wall, it’s a very very stupid gag
