Why did Oddjob want to die in the vault? Why didn't he try to get out?

Goldfinger rescued Oddjob when he was just a wee chubbeh babeh and that tiny misshapen gold-coloured blob became his loyal caddy and sacrificial friend.

I don't there is any special explenation beyond Oddjob fulfilling the archeatype common in western fiction (less so now) of the fiercely loyal "ethnic" servant willing to sacrifice his life in service to his white master.

Oddjob was so loyal to Goldfinger to the point that he was willing to sacrifice his own life to ensure that Goldfinger's plan succeeded.

Because he had a serious, life-long problem with constipation, and was looking for a way to finally end the suffering.

He didn't wan to die. He was overconfident and thought he was going to defeat Bond easily. His final second was spent in great surprise at his demise.
