Not that good of an actress.

Some great performances doesn't overshadow a career of very mediocre ones and horrid film choices (seriously, Movie 43?).

She's great in pretty much everything, including the films she's in that I don't really like.

Being in a (fairly amusing) sketch comedy segment in a raunchy comedy doesn't take away from a career full of powerful, emotionally charged performances.

Her current Shut In film isn't all that good, but she's very good in it.

I disagree. Watts has a good deal of emotional range, she's just in a cycle of mediocre projects. She's starring in a new Netflix-produced series coming out in 2017 called Gypsy. I think that'll be a better barometer for where she is as an actress.

Naomi is one of the finest actresses of her generation. She is committed and has a wide range. She could do anything. I blame the Industry for not appreciating her skills.

reply

God-awful in "King Kong."

Amazing in "Mulholland Drive."

reply

Haven't seen all her films but I believe I
don't remember her more then I remember her.

reply

I will say this: she was gorgeous when she was younger.

reply

Yeah, that went well. Netflix is known for premium content😂😂😂😂😂

reply

Her emotional range in MULHOLLAND DRIVE (2001) is stunning. I haven't sought out much of her other work, but whenever I've seen her in something, she's completely professional.

reply

Yes, her acting in Mulholland Drive is one of the best, most impressive in films from the last 30 years.

reply

She's mesmerizing in that. And not afraid to look ugly...which is rare for a Hollywood actress.

In some scenes Betty and Diane seem so different. It was an amazing job by Naomi. I knew her from other movies as Tank Girl and a period piece which I can't remember the title. But went to see the Lynch movie (long-time fan) and was overwhelmed. It took me three viewings to really try to understand it. I wonder what Lynch could do and how stellar Naomi would be in the planned series.

She had smaller roles in the period films DANGEROUS BEAUTY and WIDE SARGASSO SEA. Maybe you're thinking of one of those?

I'm not familiar with everything she's done, though.

reply

It might have been Dangerous Beauty.

reply

She plays an uptight Renaissance prude in that...

reply

She's been great in everything I've seen her in thus far (even the lesser films).

21 Grams in particular comes to mind, but Mulholland Drive is the best.

reply

Movie 43 is hilarious! I loved it, but it did have at least two lame skits.

reply

I always think she's good. But I still admit I cannot critically judge her because I find her so attractive I cannot trust my judgement.

reply

Her best work was "Mulholland Drive." She hasn't done anything on that level since.

reply

She's a talent that's for sure, just some of her choices are very meh at best. She was a little more picky her hit rate would be impressive. Also doesn't help that her greatest performance is still her breakthrough Mulholland Drive (2001) and nothing she's done has come close to it since imo.

But she's got a lot of great to very good work on her C.V, Flirting (sure it's not a big role but this is a fantastic coming of age film), Strange Planet (1999), The Ring (one of the better J-horror remakes), 21 Grams (the closet she's come to topping her Mulholland Drive performance), The Assassination of Richard Nixon, Stay (a really underrated film), King Kong, Mother and Child, Eastern Promises, St. Vincent, Funny Games, The Impossible, Birdman The Glass Castle and Twin Peaks. Not too shabby really.

Work that was more misfire then awful, Ned Kelly, We Don't Live Here Anymore, I Heart Huckabees, the international, You will meet a Tall Dark Stranger (One of Woody Allen's meh ones), Fair Game, J Edgar, Adore (I thought this was fine, a lot of people dislike it), While We're Young, Demolition, Chuck and Gypsy.

To her truly bad work, Tank Girl, Ellie Parker, Undertaking Betty, The Divorce, The Ring Two, Dream House, Movie 43, Sunlight Jr, Insurgent films, The Sea of Trees, 3 Generations, Shut In, The Book of Henry and Diana.

Some might not agree with that list, but that's how I view her films. A lot of bad and Misfire work seems to be popping up since 2009. She's no Cate Blanchett really, and I don't see a Oscar coming her way anytime soon. But she's a lot better then her C.V shows I think anyway, I think her best acting performances come from early 00's with Mulholland Drive and 21 Grams and nothing since has been up to those roles imo.

reply

I've never been able to judge her acting because I find her so incredibly beautiful.

reply

Go back and check out her debut film role, in Tank Girl

reply

She's OK. I've seen a few I liked her in:

Mother and CHild
The WOlf Hour
Sunlight Jr.

I didn't care for her at all in:

King Kong
Eastern Promises
