R.I.P.

Great actor (missed already)

Surprised this is the first MC post for him?

reply

American websites like MC don't give a damn about talented Brits.

RIP Dennis

This site is only five years old and I'm guessing there were threads that never made it across from IMDb.
I could never figure out why he got so many good roles over the years. He seemed such an ordinary bloke on screen - maybe that was his secret? Turn up, be good but let others do the showy stuff.

reply

Yeah, he was a team player, who was subsequently (initially) happy to take a back seat to John Thaw, George Cole and the extended cast of 'New Tricks' (a show I've never bothered with) but he was also good in some homegrown movies too (Up the Junction, Fright, Scars Of Dracula)

And (despite later being an in-joke) he had a semi-successful singing career, to boot.

I think it was his everyday, easy-going 'normality', that endeared him to millions.

I remember him from Minder. RIP.

Minder was must se TV when I was a kid. Terry always had a nice bird!

same here. a great british show from the 1970s.

Absolutely heartbroken at this. Anyone who like me who grew up watching The Sweeney and Minder first time around, will know that Dennis Waterman was an absolute TV legend in the 70s and 80s. You almost felt like you knew him. Great at the action, but also a fine (and IMO seriously underrated) actor. Far more recently, of course, he starred in the phenomenally successful New Tricks. I don't remember a celebrity death that I've been more upset about. RIP Dennis. Thanks for some of my favourite TV moments. Ever.

I honestly did not think he was in his seventies. This is very sad news. He was pretty much ubiquitous on screen when I was a kid. R.I.P.

A very talented man who could not only write the theme song but sing the theme song...

RIP

It is sad that the first posts here for Dennis Waterman are posts to pay tribute to him in death. But I guess there are plenty of old posts related to him in the Minder TV series board. Anyway, we Australian's loved him. Specially his role as Terry McCann in Minder which I fondly remember from my childhood and teenage years.
