When was America great?

And for who was it great for?

50's and before - even white women didn't have full rights

60's - minorities didn't have full rights

70's - women and minorities still fighting for full rights and inclusion

80's? 90's? (Those were not really "great" decades lol)

I'm really curious, what does it mean to "make America great again"

"Again" is the real word I have issue with in this phrase, without it the phrase would be perfectly fine in my eyes.

So trump supporters when was america great and who was it great for?

reply

It's nothing but a fascist catch cry aimed towards White Nationalists and imperialists evoking a time and place that never existed. "Make America Great Again" re. Monocultural, militaristic, isolationist, and anti-immigration. That's all.

reply

I think that about hits it square on the head!!
Thanks for the thoughtful response!

You're welcome :)

Yes it nails ignorance on the head. Thy name is close minded demokkkrat lemming.

2 ignorant leftwing morons having a conversation, that’s rich. No substance. No facts. Just “I think”, “no I heard”, “well comedian Bill Maher said”, “well I saw on Samantha Bee”.

Newsflash, every country in the world has controlled immigration.

But don’t take my word for it. Leave your wallets at home and go walk to the Mexican border and let us know how that goes.

reply

You are the most ignorant moronic entity on these forums but as usual you apply your own deficiencies to others.

Newsflash, this thread has nothing to do with immigration policies, moron.

Try to keep up and stay on topic. I know it's hard but keep practicing and you'll master reading one of these fine days, idiot.

America was never perfect and certainly not perfect for everyone. The US did have some great moments though. How about when we landed on the moon? What about when we helped out Europe during world war II (We got in late but we got in and turned the tides at least). How about when we pushed back the spread of communism instead of just letting it spread unchecked. What about rebuilding Japan and Europe after world war two rather then just taking possession of those territories. How about when America fought a war to end slavery? What about when we countered racism by enacting anti discrimination laws during the civil rights movement. How about the time when we turned arpanet(A network designed to survive a nuclear attack during the cold war) into the Internet (A more peaceful communication platform) and let the rest of the world participate so everyone including you could participate in forums like these. How about that time when Americans voted for a black president twice.

There is nothing wrong with wanting your country to succeed. If you want to win over trumpers (I'm not a trumper by the way) mabey you should stop hating your own country first. You don't need to hate the ideologies of the right. While I disagree with the a lot of the ideologies of the left I know we need the left to keep the right from going all out tyrannical.

Also If people can be proud of their identity, sexuality, race etc then why can't we be proud of our country. Why is there such a myth on the left that you can't make progress until you hate your country?

reply

Not only did this wall of text not answer the clearly defined question, it also asks questions already covered and answered in this thread.

Please keep up.

reply

The quetion was "when was america ever greate".
And I answered with times America was greate? I'm not impressed with your continued implication about "Keeping up" or "Paying attention". Thats your go to response to everyone so far so I will dismiss them from here out.

reply

This is really so naïve and stupid, I can't believe we're still producing citizens who fail to consider more than one point of view. So, SO narrow-minded...

reply

I consider many points of view there big wheel. I'm just trying to understand the crazy point of view that is a drumpf supporter is all🤷.

And you post reminds me of a drumpf tweet. "Something is stupid. Can't believe something something. So, SO hUge something". Trying to imitate your supreme leader?

reply

Nonsense. Don't build strawmen.

You like living without polio? There's just one example of when America was great.

The U.S. is a young nation. It was built on a violent act of conquering that contemporary Americans find distasteful. Slaves from Africa, Ireland, Scotland, and even Germany were used to build the economy. It's shameful. And Americans decided to end the practice.

If you open your mind just a little bit, you'll begin to understand things like nuance, and it might save you money later on when all the stress of worrying over things you can't control starts to take its toll on your physical and mental well-being.

You're welcome.

No charge.

reply

I wouldn't pay for nor sit through any presentation you might have. I spend my time on more fruitful endeavours.

The polio vaccine is amazing, but it didn't make America great for all Americans, LOLOL to your deflection.

My mind is open, I work in the equity, diversity and inclusion space. So I'm not sure how much more open I can be. I'm just not open to bullshit with racist undertones

reply

It amazes me how if people don't like our country...why don't they just leave?

Seriously, go somewhere else if you don't like it here. It's very simple.

Constantly bitching...and bitching...and bitching.

As someone who despises Trump, I'm going to go ahead and chime in here: Trump's idea of "making American great again" in his mind involves taking us back to the "nuclear family" days, more or less.

However, that's not entirely accurate as some of his ideas predate the nuclear family days and echo more of a 1920's vibe (coal, tariffs, severely limited immigration, etc).

Basically, Trump's idea of a "great" America involves taking us back to some nightmare version of the 20's-50's but with the middle class excised and the rich 1% richer and more powerful than ever before.

But that's only in Trump's mind. In reality, "Make America Great Again" is just an empty slogan he used to get elected by appealing to much of the boomer generation longing for those "nuclear" days again and feeding into the anger and prejudices of many of the rubes.

reply

Thank you for the thoughtful response!!

I think that's pretty much it without bring gender & race into it. But those I believe are major components of why the trumpets liked the phrase and support their supreme leader

reply

Thank you for reading it. :)

The reason I didn't mention the race/gender stuff is because minorities were struggling for equality during those days and the Trumpers probably want that to return as well.

We've already seen some early hints of it: "No gays allowed" signs in "Christian" Trumper stores feels eerily reminiscent of the "No coloreds allowed" signs that existed back in those days.

reply

"So trump supporters when was america great and who was it great for?"

I see what you did here and I wholeheartedly approve👏

reply

Thank you good Sir!

Still haven't gotten a straight answer from a trumpet though😕
