He may be a bit of a tool..

.. but he earned my respect when a would-be assassin fired two shots and he remained calm while the scuffle to subdue the assassin ensued right near him.

Boss.

when did that happen?

reply

just found and watched video. very interesting

Just so you know the guy who fired the gun was a 23 years old Asian (South Korean) Australian university student. The 2 shots fired were blanks from a starter pistol.

He claimed doing that was in protest at the treatment of several hundred Cambodian asylum seekers held in detention camps in Australia, which had nothing to do with the British monarchy, everything to do with Australian politics.

Australian strong gun law reforms only happened after 1996 of Port Arthur Massacre, in 1994 gun laws were pretty lax in Australia. So it is not like he could not get a gun.

But I think he was lucky he was not shot by police.

Later he was sentenced to 500 hours of community service.

Later he finished his study and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in anthropology from Macquarie University, and got into business school of UTS and graduated with a MBA, then went to Sydney Law School, which was the best law school in Australia, and graduated with honors. Despite found guilty of a crime, he passed the bar became a lawyer.

So that was not a dumb guy, this all in all is quite interesting.

I even wonder if the whole thing was staged.

thanks for the info

reply

He apparently thinks it's okay what he did, because he did not have the intention to hurt anyone. He mostly seems to feel sorry for himself. Disgusting. How is it possible this man was able to become a barrister?

"I even wonder if the whole thing was staged."

It's certainly interesting how quickly the prime minister dismissed it as simply a political demonstration.

reply

There was nothing but good fortunes happened to him afterwards. Those schools cost a lot of money. 500 hours of community service was a slap on the wrist.

That was why the whole thing felt weird.

reply

So you think Keating was involved? Their politics certainly seem to align.

reply

It was too long ago so I could not really remember much to connect the dots.

And there is never going to be any evidence to say one way or the other.

But like I said, what happened to the guy was kind of surreal, is just kind of suspicious.

reply

I have to agree.

reply

Isn’t that from Tom Clancy’s novel Patriot Games?

reply

Would you believe I've neither read the novel nor seen the movie???

reply

It’s not for everyone but the novel is better.

reply

Love that movie!

reply

What happened to the assassin? Was he brutally executed?

reply

Read my comment above.

reply

Yes, I agree.
It’s my one enduring image of the man, he showed no fear. I respect that.

It was pretty shitty of him to run around on his wife though.
I guess like most people he’s a bit of a mixed bag…Best of luck to King Chuck🇬🇧
