Don't get people's obsession with Henry Cavill

And are demanding the boycott of everything Superman until Cavill is back because what else are they gonna do? what about going outside for some fresh air or get a life as long as you look past this one actor who seems to be central to your life.

What about giving someone else a shot? we've seen how Snyder cultists have treated Tyler Hoechlin, Brandon Routh's return as Kingdom Come Supes and now David Corenswet, people like Aaron Fischer, Mr H Reviews and Ryan Kinel are talking like a Superman film without Cavill is an automatic fail, anyone who might be cast as Superman is insulting Cavill or a new suit is again insulting Cavill, the mind has been warped with these people and their perception of reality, it feels like Snyderverse has affected people's brains and their idea of Superman, I really don't get it.

Remember when Michael Keaton was cast as Batman, there was an awful lot of hate fans who thought it was gonna a comedy and gonna be the worst, then what happen everybody started praising Keaton once they saw him in costume, so is it possible that the new Superman might be good? is it possible David Corenswet might be good? cause these people can't move past the fact that Cavill is no longer Superman and the new film isn't Man Of Steel 2 they can't comprehend this, they're too stubborn.

reply

Cavill is never going to be an A-lister. The only BIG success he'll have is when he's connected with pre-existing major franchises. The time will never come when the movie-going public is gonna be excited for 'the next Henry Cavill movie'. He'll end up settling at around third name down the cast as far as big screen movies go (once his ego can handle that).

reply

YouTubers I mentioned Aaron Fischer, Mr H Reviews and Ryan Kinel say Cavill should return but don't support any of the products he's in. If you wanted Cavill to return for more Superman you had to support Black Adam or any of his previous entries and they didn't do that.

Think some people don't like it when their favourite character is recast because they're so attached to the previous actor.

reply

The sad truth is general audiences have moved from DCEU Superman and may have forgotten that Henry Cavill was Superman, largely because he was sidelined after Man Of Steel with BVS and Justice League.

reply

Yeah fans can be painful.

That said, I haven’t seen what you’re talking about in support of Cavill, could be because I don’t pay much attention to it. I thought most people were happy to see him go.

reply

There's plenty of online articles and YouTube videos about what's wrong with James Gunn for not using Henry Cavill. Think people are so attached to the actor that they don't think about what could be.

reply

Where were all the fans and supporters when Man Of Steel, BVS and Justice League came out? even The Witcher is hated even with Cavill in it.

If you wanted Cavill back as Superman his films had to have been well received and they weren't. It's a problem with movies intended to start a franchise, if the first instalment doesn't break box office records and isn't well received by audiences and critics they scrap all sequel plans and start over, so they don't give anyone involved a second chance.

reply

I for the most part intensely disliked the Snyderverse but I thought Cavill was a good Superman given the scripts he was given.

reply

But many fans and whiny YouTubers anger over Cavil not returning are making it sound like only Cavill can Superman no one else and no one will watch a Superman movie without him.

reply

This obsession with Cavill might be a man crush taken to extreme levels.

reply

He has a strong, imposing presence. And in the right role, he can shine. He also has a certain charm, which directors need to better leverage. He was great in Man from U.N.C.L.E. He was a very good Superman. He brought a lot to the table in Mission Impossible: Fallout. And he'd have made a great Bond. Again...strong, imposing...and with a subtle charm. (And solid acting chops).

He catches too much flak, unnecessarily. Directors need to be better at leveraging his strengths.

reply

And it's become unconventional for actors being closely tie to their superhero role in this day and age, but they're were not gonna keep him on because he would remind people of the Snyderverse and how toxic his fanbase is.

reply

I think once they found out he was a nerd, many of them did a complete 180 on their views. Now he was "one of them". I still remember people shitting on his acting when Man of Steel came out, and BvS didn't help either. Snyder's writing and Cavill's wooden acting created an edgy mopey Superman that nobody liked. Now they're in love with the apparent nerdy giga-chad Henry Cavill.

He seems like a swell guy, and he certainly looks like a real-life Superman. His acting isn't the best, but had he been born 15-20 years earlier, I'm pretty sure he'd be up there with Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, and Jason Statham as far as post-2000 action stars go. Unfortunately for him, he looks exactly like the person modern Hollywood hates, and he's adjacent to box-office poison, which I blame external factors on. I'm honestly surprised he's still getting Hollywood jobs at all.

reply

Being a swell guy has nothing to do with acting ability, he was a plank of wood the entire time he played Superman, outside of the one time he played him in Josstice League, the most Superman he ever was is in the version of Justice League that everybody hates.

He sounds better with his real accent, his American accent sounds off. He has become box office poison with Black Adam and Argylle. There was no way he was coming back as Superman due to him being so associated with a version that was incredibly divisive.

reply

I have to agree that, ironically, Josstice League had the best and most comic-accurate Superman in the DCEU, and Cavill actually gave a solid performance. Many people forget that because they were too distracted by his CGI mouth. Why they didn't just CGI his whole face is beyond me, it might have looked a little uncanny like young Jeff Bridges in Tron Legacy, but it would've still been better than what we got, but I digress.

The nerdy giga-chad Henry is what people love, so much so that they'll even take back, or at least downplay, whatever criticisms they gave him before.

reply

Actors have become closely tied to their superhero role in this day and age, but keeping him on would remind people of Snyderverse.

His fanbase and Snyder fans is so toxic, they hashtag bring back Henry Cavill, they trash anyone who might be cast as Superman because they feel it's insulting Cavill.

reply

You are so obsessed with this guy. Weird.

reply

His best performance was as a baddie in the Mission Impossible film.

I think that's who he should always play - bad guys. Maybe having him play leading roles is not suited to him.

reply

Aside from Mission Impossible Fallout or the upcoming Warhammer 40k show I haven't seen anything of interest from this guy.

He has reached a point of becoming box office poison with Black Adam and Argylle.

reply

tbh he was a horrible superman.

I'm not really impressed with todays actors. Anybody with talent is few and far between. The only actors worth watching are mostly those that were established in the 80s and 90s.

reply

He wasn’t a bad Superman. He played it the way he was directed. DC was going for darker (the antithesis to the silly Marvel movies). Superman was a stoic loner and outsider, carrying a tremendous burden. HC did just fine with what he was directed to do.

It always cracks me up when someone suggests an actor portrayed a character as “wooden”. Well….maybe the effin CHARACTER was wooden. Not every character onscreen is supposed to be fun and charismatic. That would be like saying: “Most of the movies Clint Eastwood has been in, he has been wooden.”

reply

He played Supes as mopey/Dark Knight wannabe the entire time he played the character, outside of the one time he played him in Josstice League.

The most Superman we got in movies in the last decade was Captain America in the MCU.

reply

I get that he was meant to be a 'darker' portrayal, but Superman can still be dark plus a larger than life character who projects warmth as well as strength. Cavill just can't project warmth, guy's cold as ice. Even if his character is more brooding, he should still be able to show warm characteristics, similar to what Stallone was able to do with his darker Rambo character.

reply

The most Superman he ever was is in Josstice League the version of Justice League that everybody hates.

reply

I haven't seen any of those movies, thankfully.

reply

Yes
