LUCAS HAS DIRECTED...THX-1138,AMERICAN GRAFFITI,STAR WARS A NEW HOPE,THE PREQUEL TRILOGY,AND...NOTHING ELSE...GRAFFITI AND THE ORIGINAL STAR WARS ARE HIS ONLY GOOD FILMS...HIS ONLY GOOD FILMS ARE BOTH FROM THE 70S...HE SPENT WHATEVER TALENT HE HAD LONG AGO...HE IS A TERRIBLE DIRECTOR...THE DISNEY STAR WARS TRIOLOGY IS SLIGHTLY BETTER THAN LUCAS' PREQUEL TURDS...BUT NOT BY MUCH.

reply

As per usual on this topic, I disagree 100%. Di$ney Wars was an absolute abomination.

reply

I DON'T DISAGREE...THEY'RE SLIGHTLY BETTER THAN THOSE GREYBEARD ABORTIONS CALLED THE PREQUELS THOUGH...AND MOST OF WHAT MAKES THEM SLIGHTLY BETTER IS NOSTALGIA BAIT...SO I CAN SEE IT BOTH WAYS...LONG STORY SHORT...THE LAST DECENT STAR WARS FILM WAS IN THE 80S...ALTHOUGH,I DO ENJOY ROGUE ONE.

reply

As I said I 100% disagree. Di$ney Wars is a total disgrace to the OT, the PT & Star Wars in general. The PT had quality, coherent overarching storytelling bridging the two trilogies & regardless of the debate over certain aspects of their execution, it's undeniable that those films greatly expanded the Star Wars universe/lore in ways that continued to contribute to the franchise for the next 2 decades+ in the way that the cynical, Di$ney Wars cash grab abomination never will.

reply

THE PREQUELS ARE THE WORST...JAR JAR AND DARTH MAUL RAPED POP CULTURE.

reply

I'm aware of how you feel about the prequels & I disagree 100%. That aside, as I previously said, it's an objective fact that the prequels contributed significantly to expanding the Star Wars lore/universe in ways that Di$ney Wars did not, rather being a poor imitation that merely attempted to mimic what came before it, adding nothing.

reply

OBJECTIVE?...LMAO...NO..NOT FOR ABOUT 20 YEARS...WHEN DISNEY WARS AS YOU CALL IT HAS AGED AND WE SEE HOW THE CHILDREN OF TODAY FEEL ABOUT IT IN RETROSPECT.

reply

Yes. The PT expanding Star Wars lore & having a major influence on the franchise beyond just the films in the following decades is objective fact. Again how much people "liked" the prequel films themselves is beside the point. The PT expanded upon what came before while Di$ney Wars merely imitated & rehashed what came before, adding nothing new of substance.

reply

At least the prequel trilogy was political. Disney sequels had nothing, except stupid woke characters (and CGI... lots of it).

one of the greats of modern cinema, with Cameron , Spielberg

GROSS THOUGHT.

reply

I think directing burned him out. He was miserable after Star Wars finished principal photography. He didn't like having to fire people and deal with actors' neuroses, along with all the logistical stresses of dealing with state of the art special effects from the pre-CGI era. That's why he put Kirshner and Richard Marquand in charge of Empire and Return. By the time he came back to do the prequels, there wasn't as much for the director to do since everything is done in front of a green screen and will come to life in post.

reply

He could always do smaller movies.

reply

He's been saying that for 40 years--"Maybe I'll just go off and make an independent movie for under a million dollars". That was a lot easier to do if we were still in the 70s. I personally love American Graffiti and he showed such flair with getting off-the-cuff spontaneous reactions from the actors because part of it was improvised.--completely unlike Star Wars. He has all the time in the world to make a new movie now that he sold the franchise to Disney. If he has anything to say, let him try to make a low budget indie. I would love to see that, but it would be depressing if he cam't pull it off.

reply

At the time he sold Lucasfilm, he said he was looking forward to making small independent experimental films, but obviously he changed his mind.

reply

Good God, no. He hasn't been involved with a good movie since Willow.

reply

he should at least keep producing.
