I have no problem picking songs, but I’m so indecisive I can’t come up with favorite bands….I’ll post later after some thought…good thread

Yours:

If your songs are also rankings, then I’m with you on Floyd….’Time’ is absolutely my favorite from Pink Floyd..’Us and Them’ is good, and a shoutout to another sax song that I like : The Gunners Dream

All your selections for The Doors are cool, it’d be tough to beat ‘The End’ and ‘Five to One’ for me….shoutout to ‘Back Door Man’

Chicago- ‘…Searchin’ so long” is good, and ‘Saturday in the Park’ is such a feel-good song….

Cheers…

reply

Yeah, your previous thread gave me the idea!
And yes, they are in order.

"The Gunner's Dream" is a great song. Speaking of the sax, notice Roger's voice and sax suddenly become one. I think I would have liked "Saturday In The Park" more, but I heard it on commercials years ago, and it might have ruined it. Maybe it's a little too happy for me, lol. But a great theme. Robert Lamm found 8mm video he found, and described it in a song.. Always love the "Slow motion riders..." part.

reply

I agree. I saw them in New Orleans recently, and since the song is about Burbon Street Robert made sure to include it in their set. I think it had been omitted on the rest of the tour. There is a 12” single out there of it that is fantastic too.

Somebody alerted me to the new Duran Duran last year, and Danse Macabre was quite the treat, would’ve never guessed it was DD….and it already cracked your faves list…

What did you think of the Psycho Killer cover?

reply

Danse Macabre just struck a chord with me. I also change my mind on favourites constantly. Even now I could change my mind about the songs, and the bands I listed.

Psycho Killer is good. It feels a lot more disco though than the talking heads version. I do prefer the vocals in the DD version.

reply

There was a certain camp to David Byrne’s vocal pattern and style to the song that fit so perfectly with the offbeat lyrics. The DD version is nicely arranged and produced, but Simon Le Bon needed to ham it up and have some crazy fun; I just didn’t feel it from him.

reply

I agree it could have been campier. It's not my favourite of their new ones, but it's such a fun song, it's still good.

reply

I was not expecting all of these from you. Very cool.

reply

Really? Curious, what surprised you, or was it just the endless length of my….list?

Oops, that could’ve went south…

reply

Just a little more classic rock than I was thinking. You have such a vast music knowledge and taste, it's always interesting it see what someone picks as favourites.

reply

To its benefit, classic rock was really album oriented, leading to continuous good songs throughout the LP. Unfortunately, and with a fear of sounding like an old dude, those days are over, and it’s been over for awhile. But I can see why it works now, with streaming and all. Screw the whole album and just buy what tunes you like. But it was nice to just put in the CD or spin the album and just sit back and enjoy, not needing to skip anything.

Those young ladies from Isle of Wight, Wet Leg, are pretty damn good. Their eponymous debut album is so fun : the sardonic, witty, tongue-on-ass-cheek humor is a blast . Im looking forward to their follow up second album…should be good….

reply

Quite a few thumbs up from me (and many I am not familiar with). I thought maybe you would find this interesting

reply

Ah man, good stuff…a few months back I started watching these first time “reactions” on YouTube , but it was mostly kids and young folks listening to classics for the first time. This was different and cool; it was interesting to see a reaction and hear an opinion for this song from a classically trained musician. She was good, though the crack on Daltrey’s vocal style was bit out of pocket, but that’s okay, just her opinion and not surprising she feels that way ….overall, good clip, thanks again NY-7…

Salut….

reply

Agreed. Both "Christine"and "Cities in Dust" are epic as well.
