What did you watch this week friend? (03/17-03/23)
Let’s settle down for a minute. What did we watch this week eh?
Me:
Open season (2006 DVD): I think this is a good example that you don’t need a sublime animation to have a fairly entertaining film. Even by 2006 standards, the animation sometimes felt like a morning kids show but the story, characters and adventure made it a fun time with the family. My rating: 6.5/10
Bullet to the head (2014 Netflix): I wasn’t sure if I had seen this before. Turns out I hadn’t. The one-liners are pretty weak, let’s be honest, the dialogues could even be a little funny, but the story isn’t all that bad and the Stallone/Momoa face off was badass while the Stallone/Kang duo was pretty cool. Very violent actions scenes too. Me like. My rating: 6.5/10
Road house (1989 Prime): My brother used to watch this movie a lot and I would sneak behind him to watch bits and parts. It looked so badass to my teeny eyes. Watching it for the first time now I can simply wonder why I didn’t watch it before. Because it IS so badass. But it’s also sexy and cool and sweet and violent and fun and has amazing settings; the rented room on the ranch across the big mansion, the bar, the barn, the dinner, Red’s garage, the strip club and the car showroom that gets crushed by a monster truck. Like, this is now one of my pfavourite movie ever. My rating: 8.5/10
The burning (Friday night special): I was pretty excited for this movie because of the ratings so I had high expectations and you know what? They were all met or even exceeded! Exceeded I say! The color, the directing, the actors, the overall quality of the production; just all good. Some scenes were too dark but I preferred this movie over many, more popular, slashers from that decade (Sleepaway camp, Black Christmas…)My rating: 7.5/10
Lionheart (Friday late night special): I think this one has a pretty good story but the fight choreographies are a bit weak. Although it did not age as well as other movies from him, that remains a solid JCVD flick. My rating: 7/10
Daybreakers (Saturday night special): First of all, the mouths were out of sync the entire time for me so it was distracting. Too bad because the cast was great. Then there’s the story; it was okay but it’s really the last 15 minutes that makes it remarkable. I mean, what a finale! As for the special effects; when they were CGIed it was not great but when it was practical it was very good. My rating: 7/10
