Ideal music for a road trip?

I guess either Free Bird or Gimme All You Lovin' would be some good road trip songs....

For long road trips I've found a lot of enjoyment with movie soundtracks and scores - video games as well if they're orchestral/arranged.

Some favorites:

Streets of Fire
Various scores from Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard and Jerry Goldsmith
Simpsons music number compilations

Thanks for the input! I guess I'll try movie and video game music next time I go on a road trip!

Sounds like you'd enjoy some symphonic rock like "Within Temptation"

..or Nightwish

Jim Steinman's Streets of Fire music rocks!

Classic Rock, Ozzy's Boneyard, Hair Nation or Yacht Rock on Sirius satellite radio.
Sometimes I'll throw in some Disco or old Rap just to mix it up, not gonna lie.

I prefer Classic Country at home, I really can't explain why.

Thanks for the suggestions! I appreciate it! I'll look 'em up!

It's not music (though there's some music thrown in), but I've spent a lot of time on the road listening to the stand up albums of Bill Hicks. I highly recommend giving them a listen on those 1,000 mile highway stretches if no kids are present.

reply

Heh, I guess some humor is an option!

I've driven across the country and back multiple times and it's definitely nice to give your ears a break from drums and guitar by throwing some stand up in the mix. If you're interested in listening to Bill Hicks I highly recommend Arizona Bay.

I'll look into it! I'm a little concerned if my laughter will distract me from driving, though.

reply

Nice. Sometimes laughter is actually a good thing to keep you alert and awake when driving through places like Wyoming and Oklahoma where there's nothing of interest for 100's of miles at a time.

reply

You have a point there!

i use to make mixtapes for my travels

Wow, I haven't heard that in years. Brings back some memories.

Good pick.

John Denver's Take Me Home is mandatory listening at least once on a cross country road trip.
