As good as the people who chose to eliminate death's motivations were, if there were no deaths since the dawn of humanity, the world population would be ~108B today.

In moderation, okay. But if you've ever watched any shows that follow police calls and situations, it's incredible how many problems and crimes are the result of over-imbibing. Of course, drugs are the other huge drain on resources.

Sure, but just as Prohibition of alcohol was a huge mistake which only facilitated the rise of criminal gangs, drug prohibition now has done the same thing.

And yeah, I'm a recovered alcoholic. But alcohol does have its place as a social elixir. You know in the Bible where it says god made wine to gladden the hearts of men? I'm an atheist, but even the greatest ethical traditions on earth accept alcohol as having positive qualities.

I agree. It's the over-imbibing that is the problem. I'm fine with folks enjoying their alcohol. And I know prohibition didn't work and I'm not for banning alcohol. I just wish folks would watch their intake. Yes, I know it's a pipe dream, but one can wish...
