Post Your Music Trivia here!

Most people here know that I love music and music trivia. However, I recently heard this bit of trivia that I didn't know:

On Foreigner's renowned recording "4," all of the keyboards/synthesizers on that great recording (Including "Waiting For Girl Like You"...what a song and especially what an intro!) were played by Thomas Dolby (of "She Blinded Me With Science" fame). I did not know that.

Please post any music trivia you have here. No matter how obscure, well-known, whatever...I'd love to see it!

He also played on Def Lepard's "High 'n' Dry" album on a remix version of 'Bringin'On the Heartache': also played on 'Pyromania' as well.

Thank you! I didn't know that either. I think he's such a talented artist...my favorite song of his is one he did in the early 90s called "I Love You Goodbye." The music is just so beautiful on that!

Don Felder supposedly played the classic chords to "Hotel California" in a bathing suit. He had just finished swimming in the Pacific Ocean when he played it for Don Henley and Glenn Frey.

Also, the original key Felder played the chords in was E Minor. However, to match Don Henley's singing voice key, he put a capo on the 7th fret of his 12-string (transposing the key to B Minor) and the rest is history.

He’s something I posted a few years back: -

https://moviechat.org/nm1275382/Dire-Straits/5f3426c5ca71460505b1cf6c/Fun-fact-about-Sting-singing-backup-on-Money-For-Nothing

So Sting sings ‘I want my, I want my, I want my MTV’ to the tune of, ‘Don’t stand so, don’t stand so, don’t stand so close to me.’

reply

Yes! I did not realize that when it came out, but I read that some years back and I believe Sting was given a "Songwriter's credit," just for that one line. I think Sting said he got some nice-sized checks as a result of that!

Regarding the song, I love Mark Knopfler as a guitarist and that is such a great riff that he plays. However, I thought what really made that song was the drums in the intro. Man, they had such a sound...it was like someone was throwing punches. Hard to believe that song is almost 40 years old now!

Deniece Williams, best known for "Let's Hear It for the Boy" from the Footloose (1984) soundtrack, released her first, and my favorite album of hers: This Is Niecy in 1976. She originally wrote the songs for Earth, Wind & Fire, but ended up singing her own stuff with (most of) EW&F as her backing band!

It's such a great R&B album that goes down real easy:

Awesome! I didn't know that! Yes, "Let's Hear It For The Boy" was such a big hit for her. Earth, Wind, And Fire is one of those great bands who I never really listened to (and what a great name for a band!). I remember Phillip Bailey and his duet with Phil Collins ("Easy Lover"). They were so well-liked back in the day.

Legend has it that before a Rolling Stones gig, many years ago, Mick Jagger phones Charlie Watt’s hotel room and says, “Is that my f**king drummer? You’d better show up on time.”

Moments later there’s a knock on Mick Jagger’s room door and as he opens it, Charlie Watts floors him with one one punch and says, “Let’s get one thing straight, I’m not your f**king drummer - you’re my f**king singer”.

reply

😂 I really hope that's true!

reply

Yes, that is great! Hard to imagine Charlie Watts ever getting worked up like that, just from watching him play the drums! 😃

In 1988 Stevie Young filled in for Malcolm Young (AC/DC's rhythm guitarist) on their tour as Malcolm was in rehab. Most fans didn't notice as Stevie physically resembled Malcolm. After Malcolm's retirement in 2014, Stevie became a full time member.

reply

Thank you! I did not know that either. I remember Angus Young said he felt Malcolm was the real star of AC/DC. He had those great rhythmic riffs...there's just something about AC/DC songs that are so much fun to play (and listen to). Such great rhythms.

reply

Malcolm was also the leader. It's said, he ruled with an iron fist (in a good way).

Wow! Times were indeed different back then.

Dennis Wilson was the only member of the Beach Boys who actually surfed.

reply

Thank you! I seem to remember reading that years ago. I can remember when Dennis Wilson died and what a big deal that was then (I was a freshman in high school). Hard to believe that's been almost 40 years ago now!
