That actually doesn't sound too bad.

Signed, million man.

reply

it's quite the trip

If 3 day diarrhea is your thing..

Signed, million man.

reply

yeah, norovirus.

reply

That's cheaper than an apartment in a major city!

There must be a catch. Like, I notice there was no picture of this $30k/yr living space in the article.

reply

You probably don’t get a window and are close to the engine room. Lol

reply

The $30k is for a very small interior cabin, but I believe I saw for around $36k you could get an ocean view.

I don't think the base price includes gratuities for the crew, which over 3 years could be substantial and any shore excursions in the ports of call would be extra. For a point of reference, on average my husband and I pay $225 per week for gratuities when we cruise and that doesn't include anything over and above that we may hand out to individuals. Based in that, it's an extra $12k for gratuities per year, but maybe something has been worked out for that cost to be lower.

It still sounds like a great deal for someone who can just take off for 3 years and see the world.

If my job had a work-from-home option I'd definitely be looking for more details!

Such as whether one person could get a cabin for that little or whether that's half the price of a cabin meant for two, and whether the price included meals. Because it's not like you're going to be able to shop for groceries and cook your own food.

reply

It will include all meals, just like any cruise and I believe it also includes limited alcoholic beverages.

reply

The weight gain might be counterbalanced by multiple cases of norovirus.

reply

And the bar bill.

reply

I've been on two cruises, not my cup of tea.

I've read that some seniors do it as it was cheaper than a retirement home. I don't think it was a 3 year cruise, but multiple cruises a year. There were things like frequent cruising discounts and such. I didn't really look into it because I don't like cruises, but I can see the appeal.

reply

That sounds like a great deal if you're into cruises and travel.
