Is it Russia?

US air space shut down, now Royal Mail in Britain has a cyber attack affecting international deliveries πŸ€”

reply

They said not on the News just now - it remains to be seen if the story changes.

reply

This story does not appear prominently at all on the news sites I peruse, I only see it when I Google "cyber attack"

Really?! It's been in my news alerts on my phone all afternoon. They trying to hide something do you think ? Or a genuine glitch in the system?

reply

I see it now on the front page of CNN.com

We'll see what's up as the story unfolds (I guess)

reply

when the power goes out, then it will be russia.

reply

Or so the Chinese would have us believe.

reply

For once no one is blaming Canada.

reply

πŸ€πŸ˜‰ Tee-hee!
I have never blamed Canada for anything.

reply

Today?

reply

Nope. I blame our antiquated systems and lack of proper maintenance and upgrades.

People today are so naΓ―ve, thinking bad things will never happen to them/us/the US. And they don't want to spend the $$ to maintain just about everything. πŸ™„ (Sorry, don't mean to sound political.) 😬

reply

Well, that's how politics work. You gotta point fingers.

reply

Unfortunately, true. But instead of pointing fingers, we need to look for solutions. Probably a pipe dream in today's world, but one can hope...

reply

Unless there is a change in working parameters, exactly what benefits are you missing out on? Sure many of these embedded systems are still using windows xp, but you don't seem to be considering the cybersecurity part more of it is just too old to keep working.

reply

I'm not saying I miss out on any benefits. But I do care about society in general.

reply

Iwas trying to counter the always update mantra by pointing out unless there is a benefit to be gained l, it doesn't matter much, yes, updating can decrease matintenance costs of supporting legacy systems.

We love our legacy systems of course and it costs us more to maintain them in the long run but they work forvfhftbeebneed and ripping the bandaid off doesn't come with any immediate benefits, we will eventually need to, but it is easiier to sell and package modulatity in a needed performance upgrade than ssying we need to make it modular n9wfor a potential performance upgrade we don't need now but will at some point in the future

reply

forvfhftbeebneed? Sorry, but what does this mean?

reply

For the current need.

Systemsdon't crash just because they are old you need to be doing something that they cannot support, until we need to upgrade upgrading for upgrading for rbupgadings sakedoes not transfer enough short term benefit

reply

β€œrbupgadings sakedoes” Sorry, but what does this mean?

reply

I actually enjoy trying to figure out her typos. I make a fun game out of it trying to see if I'm right lol.

until we need to upgrade upgrading for upgrading's sake, does not transfer enough short term benefit.

I think I fully got it that time!! 😁😁
