It's an odd number and it's a prime. Making it needlessly difficult to schedule a repeating events like every 2 days, every 3 days, twice a week, etc. They won't fall into the same days every week.
I wish a week is not 7 days long. Perhaps 12-day week should be fine. It goes along with the 12-hour clockface and 12-month year. Twelve is such a versatile number.
5-day week would be also not so good because it's still an odd number and a prime. I think the French had tried 5-day week (or was it 10-day week?) and it didn't work.
A 6-day week would be okay. Not too different from 7-day week, but 6 is an even number and divisible by 1, 2, 3, and 6. A fortnight would be 12 days which, in addition, is divisible by 4.
the solar year is ~365.25 days. That is the basic cycle. A 5 day week also divides fairly well into that, as would 12 months, with each month having 5 weeks instead of four.
But that isn't really any improvement. Also, there is the whole traditional biblical aspect to consider.
There could also be 9 day weeks, 36 day months roughly, and ten months a year.
I get that the solar year is 365.25 days, but it doesn't have to be a calendar year. People will adjust. So what do you say, does a 60 week 360 day year work for you?
The amount of weeks per year is less important. Hell, looking at what we have today, 365.25 / 7 = 52.1785714286. Which is pretty messed up, but we get a leap year every 4 years as a workaround.
Using 6-day week we'll get 365.25 / 6 = 60.875. A little bit neater actually. Math people should be able to devise a similar leap year system relatively easily.
I think there is something wrong with your calendar app if it won't let you schedule repeat meetings on specific days 😀
But apart from that, pretty certain we're stuck with 365.25 days per year for the present and however you divide it up there is going to be a little awkwardness somewhere.
But there is hope! Apparently in 21 million years the Earth's rotation will have slowed to the point where there are 364 days in the year which gives a nice neat 52, 7 day weeks.
Not on a specific day. Every monday or every saturday that would be just once a week, regardless of how many days a week is.
Like I said, if you want something every 3 days for example, then you'll get monday, thursday, sunday, then wednesday, saturday, then tuesday, friday, then only finally back to monday again.
Also if you want to do something twice a week, you won't get the same length in between. Monday and thursday mean you'll get 3 days in between them, but 4 days to get back to Monday again.
OK, fair enough.
But if you overthink it (as I sometimes tend to do) there is always going to be some combination of week days and repeat scheduling that will not fit neatly together.
I love using the OneCalendar app for all my calendaring needs. The Google calendar sucks grapes. For example, you're able to schedule an event every 2nd Tuesday of the month.
Don't get hung up on the week. Every single day will only happen once in the history of the universe.
