Words that are now obsolete.

"Telephone"

reply

Stop. So much for information processing.

I like crazy words. I'm liable to use a few of these listed in here if I find the occasion where they are perfectly applicable or just the right spice in an analogy. I don't like forcing a 10 cent word but I do like choosing exactly to the right golf club for the swing.

reply

Agreed. You just need to be able to excogitate those words at the right moment.

reply

lol, yes. But I don't much like the word "excogitate." Sometimes a synonym has connotation or reputation that make it a better choice over its brethren. "Excogitate" doesn't do anything for me that "devise" or "plan" do not. It isn't pleasant to say either. Sounds like a combo of memory loss and vomiting. Looks like a demon's name.

Here is one that I don't like and since people hardly use matches any more, I consider it obsolete (not just out-dated).

Vesta (a match)

Telex

reply

What does that mean???

reply

It's like an older version of sending an email.
Well, that's what we called it in Australia anyway.

And teletext.

Close is still used quite frequently in the UK.
