Loneliness-themed movies that fit the description (please read the description)

Looking for movies that have loneliness as a major theme. Loneliness because of not having many friends and lack of a partner. Movies like Cast Away (2000) do not fit the bill. The movie Her (2013) on the other hand, somewhat does. I am looking for a relatable (non-sci-fi) believable movie.

"While You Were Sleeping", with Sandra Bullock.

reply

Sandra Bullock? I like Sandra Bullock. I gotta watch this one.

reply

It's a good movie!

I warn you, it's a rom-com, but from the days when Hollywood still knew how to make romantic comedies. Yeah, it's a comedy about loneliness.

I am only halfway through and I just love this movie. If you know any more movies along the same lines,, do let me know. I love light-hearted movies like these.

If you're OK with 90s romcoms, perhaps you'd like "My Best Friend's Wedding", with Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz? It doesn't fit your theme quite as perfectly as "WYWS", but it's a good movie, a rom-com with an edge, and it also fits the theme pretty well.

reply

Yeah, it doesn't fit the theme well and it's fine but more than that I have already seen that movie. But thanks anyway.

WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING AND ADDICTED TO LOVE WITH MEG RYAN WERE MY JAMS IN THE LATE 90S.

I've always liked her also. While it's obviously not a light hearted movie, in Murder by Numbers (2002) it's apparent her self-isolated character is also lonely and that element contributes significantly to the plot.

I have been aware of "While You Were Sleeping" for a while I just didn't bother watching it until @otter recommended it. But I was not even aware of "Murder by Numbers". I will check it out. Thanks.

Bingo! This movie really nails the subject, Strat.

I knew you'd agree with me!😉

Borgnine is such a great, versatile actor. The viewer can love him in Marty and then hate him in Emperor of the North (1973).
