shareYes, but I didn't enjoy it much better than other westerns. The stories all seem so similar.
shareMcCabe & Mrs. Miller is definitely different.
"Shane" is great, "The Outlaw Josey Wales", "The Ox-Bow Incident" is a psychological western with Peter Fonda.
"The Professionals" is a philosophical western without being pedantic. Great cast.
I've found that if it's about real life people, I'm much more intrigued.
I remember when Heaven's Gate was on tv, I looked up the real story and just kept on reading, I didn't even watch the movie anymore. The real story was way more interesting than the movie, although that probably doesn't say much.
THAT MEANS YOU DON'T CARE FOR THE GENRE...NOT THAT THE GENRE SPORTS MORE BAD FILMS THAN OTHER GENRES.

The majority seems to be crappily made movies like John Wayne or Spaghetti westerns. Besides, I don't consider a repetitive story a good quality.
AGAIN...YOU DISLIKE THE GENRE AND ITS STARS....OBVIOUSLY...THAT STILL DOESN'T EQUAL WESTERN BEING THE BIGGEST OFFENDER OF BAD FILMS.

shareWESTERNS HAVE DIPPED IN PRODUCTION NUMBERS IN RECENT DECADES...WHILE OTHER GENRES HAVENT...THATS ENOUGH RIGHT THERE TO EXCLUDE WESTERN...THE RECENT GLUT OF BAD FILMS IN THE LAST 20 TO 30 YEARS HAS BEEN VERY LIMITED IN ITS OLD WEST OPTIONS...I WOULD ARGUE HORROR FILMS ARE AS OLD AS FILMS THEMSELVES,HAVE NEVER HAD A DECADE WHERE THEY WERE COMPLETELY OUT OF FASHION AND SINCE DIRECT TO VHS AND ESPECIALLY DIRECT TO STREAMING...HORROR HAS RELEASED THE MOST FILMS PERIOD...AND THERE ARE VERY FEW ACTUALLY GOOD FILMS PER MILLION.
HORROR IS MY FAVORITE GENRE BY THE WAY.
I'd say Horror but I love so many trashy horror flicks. I dislike musicals though
