Please stop saying backslash

Unless you're coding or involved in some very niche subject that I'm not aware of, you'll never need to use a \ or even need to know that word. They almost never appear in URLs. Certain browsers will correct this mistake, but just stop, seriously.

Why do so many on-hold recording messages, like for certain VA hospitals even, egregiously use the word backslash as though it means the same thing as slash? Not only are you showing your computer illiteracy, but you're wasting your time and breath saying a syllable YOU'LL NEVER NEED.

To recap, / is a slash, the only one you'll ever need, so cut it out.

Dammit! Now I suppose you're gonna drop a left-click on me.

reply

On no I wouldn’t do that, I’m not a monster!

What time do you have to be back at the home?

A hear they're serving creamed-corn tonight. 😀

reply

Can I still say futhorc?

reply

There are many people who aren't computer savvy. They need to hear forward slash.

reply

If you must say forward slash, so be it. Just stop saying backslash when you mean the absolute opposite.

And ruin my fun?

reply

Half blackslash, great guitarist!

reply

A backlash against backslash?

reply

It's trash, and it gives me a rash. I don't mean to be so brash.

reply

Maybe they're used to learn DOS. People in my age (40-ish) usually did get DOS lessons in computer classes when we were schoolchildren.

DOS (and Windows, technically) was notorious in it's usage of backslashes to separate folders (then called directories.) I can see how those computer classes were burned in memory since they were usually from very young age.

reply

That has to be it. You can still access different directories in Windows this way, but most people don't need to because the GUI is more intuitive.

reply

If / is a slash, then \ must be a backslash.

reply

Yeah, I never said backslashes don't exist. People are constantly saying the word backslash when they mean slash.
