Do you have 'National Treasures' in your country?

British icon Barbara Windsor passed away last night. Everybody loved her.

Along with Sir David Attenborough and Stephen Fry, they are National Treasures to us.

I'm not sure if this is a British thing. Do you have famous people in your country that pretty much the whole population loves? Where if you said something bad about them you'd have a lynch mob after you?

reply

Dame Edna was a riot.

reply

She still is, on those rare occasions when Barry pulls on the pantyhose 😆

reply

Great list but if youre including dead ones, what about Michael Hutchence? I loved INXS. 🤘🎸

reply

So did I Rio, but in terms of being loved by the general population, I think Hutchence’s rep was a bit on the tarnished side, not only because the nature of his death, but also his bizarre match with Paula Yates and the whole homewrecker thing with Bob Geldof (who would be closer to a UK national treasure, I’d say).

reply

Not fan of Geldof, and he's Irish.

I've no idea what Hutchence saw in Yates, re-watching them flirt on TV is cringe worthy knowing how it all turns out.

reply

😣 I thought Ireland was part of the UK, silly Australian I am!

Yeah, Michael should have stuck with Kylie. THAT was an iconic couple 🥰

reply

Nah, he's from Republic of Ireland but based in London I think.

Michael and Kylie sure made a cute couple, he turned her from a sweet girl next door type into an iconic sexpot. 😍

reply

Tom Hanks.

reply

I heard he's big!

reply

You'd have to throw out a Dragnet to catch a bigger star

reply

He has certainly made a Splash in Hollywood.

reply

Now that's what we call a Punchline😃

reply

Søren Kierkegaard. He died in 1855. We still miss him! 😔

reply

what did he do?

reply

He invented the yo-yo. And his dog could bark page one of Goethe's "Die Leiden des jungen Werthers".

reply

and he made great farts sounds.

reply

He did! The result of a diet consisting of peas, cabbage, and methamphetamine! 😐

reply

i meant imitation fart sounds with his mouth. he was talented.

reply

The yo-yo and bubble gum ! He was the complete package.
