Se7en (1995) vs The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

which is better??

reply

Silence of the Lambs..

reply

Close, but the Lambs never stop screaming.

reply

Me too. I think hands down without a doubt Hopkins beats both films.

reply

They're very different in structure, but similar in tone. Se7en has the whodunit thing going for it. The mystery of who John Doe is makes for a taut thriller. In Lambs, even though you are introduced to Hannibal upfront, his spookiness permeates the entire film. Then you also have the Buffalo Bill situation. It's a tough showdown of films.

reply

Buffalo also has the taut thriller element.

A major difference is that in Seven

*Spoiler*

The killer gets caught/ turns himself in and purposely commits suicide for the catholic sins theme. Silence Hannibal gets away.

reply

Brad Pitt cannot act.

reply

It kind of depends on the movie. He does some interesting stuff in Se7en, but he also goes a little too far at times, in ways Jodie Foster never does in Lambs. Brad is pretty great in The Tree of Life, True Romance, Babel. He's not an everytime time guy for sure.

reply

I like both but I have to give it to SOTL

reply

Se7en.

reply

Too close. I think this depends more on my mood. I think today I have to give it to Se7en.

reply

i can't pick one either.

reply

It's eerie close. Se7en had more shocking scenes, but I'll take Hannibal Lector over John Doe. It's a wash.

reply

I feel like Se7en was a precursor to the Saw films and gore porn type stuff, just pushing extremes. Silence of the Lambs is more of a character based thriller.

reply

They are both amazing movies but Se7en gets my vote.

reply

i agree
