Bakers dozen. Remakes that were better than the original. Obviously it’s going to be a matter of opinion here.
1. The man who knew too much (1956) over the man who knew too much (1934).

shareWow, watching one right now the Getaway, 94

2. Ocean's Eleven (2001) better than Ocean's Eleven (1960).
I agree on that one. In the original they were hamming it up too much.
shareOn the other hand, The Rat Pack were, collectively, exponentially more talented than Clooney’s sad crew. Sammy Davis Jr ALONE took care of that. Clooney WISHED he could be Old Blue Eyes. I don’t buy your post. Were you even a sperm in the 60s?
What is SO COOL about the original is that The Pack ONLY made it to get paid to drink and have sex in Vegas. That’s all! Francis Albert admitted that. It was a PAID VACATION for some of the most talented men on earth. It was a voyeurs fantasy movie tour of The Rat Pack in Vegas; kinda like porn before there was NC17.
It's true. Despite having the "Rat Pack" and seeing some old school Las Vegas scenery, the original was kind of a bore
share3. The Getaway (1994) over The Getaway (1972)
share...okay it’s not exactly “better”, but I think it’s more fun, plus Kim Basinger and Jennifer Tilly, James Woods and Michael Madsen are great bad guys, and a young Phillip Seymour Hoffman...and (Spoiler?) the end scene shootout is pretty cool...
shareI'm skeptical here. I have not seen the remake, but the original was a classic. Its hard to imagine they did better.
shareI admit, my taste is sometimes questionable....the first was good, but something about the second one and it’s more than just the nudity....like I said, not really ‘better’, just more ‘fun’... but your skepticism is warranted, the critics don’t agree with me either...
shareWe like a lot of the same stuff, I trust your taste. 👍
share4. The Thing 1982
shareDefinitely a good example of this category.
Side note: If anyone says True Grit, I don't know how I will control my fury. The orignal was so far superior,.
Agreed!! (Edit: But the remake is quite respectable)
shareNot really.
The Thing (1982) is not a remake from the old one. Both movies are based in the same book. Carpenter dismissed the old movie and followed much more closely the original source material.

7. The Fly (1986) over The Fly (1958) - although I like both
I prefer the original. Vincent Price is a national treasure.
Still the remake was not bad.
Yeah they are both great films and although the 86 version is a remake it's almost impossible to compare since the story is completely different. Cronenberg took the bare bones of the premise and immersed it completely in his weird, graphic and often repulsive aesthetic. It came off as truly original which hardly ever happens with remakes.
58 is one of the best B-grade monster movies of all time while 86 is a bona fide sci-fi/horror classic. It's just if I had to take one to a desert island I would choose the remake.
