Best films of 1995

I love 90s movies so I thought I'd choose the dead middle and see what you guys like from that year. My Top 10 in no particular order:

Se7en (David Fincher)
To Die For (Gus Van Sant)
The City of Lost Children (Jean-Pierre Jeunet / Marc Caro)
Safe (Todd Haynes)
Casino (Martin Scorsese)
Before Sunrise (Richard Linklater)
The Bridges of Madison County (Clint Eastwood)
The Usual Suspects (Bryan Singer)
In The Mouth of Madness (John Carpenter)
The Quick and the Dead (Sam Raimi)

reply

From your list I'd go with Casino
Se7en is a close second

reply

Ugh. I can’t stand Casino. One of the worst 90s screening experience I had alongside Batman and Robin.

reply

Interesting, I don't think I've ever met anyone who really disliked it. Maybe a few who complained it wasn't quite up there with Scorsese's best, but certainly no one who has likened it to Batman and Robin lol

Why did you hate it so much, if you don't mind me asking?

reply

Jumanji

Billy Madison

Pocahontas

reply

Well that's unfortunate
I really enjoyed it and James Woods just seems to make everything better
What a great sleazeball he played in this one!

To each their own👍

reply

Carrington
Casino
Crumb (Documentary)
Feast of July
Pride and Prejudice (TV Mini-series)
Sense and Sensibility
12 Monkeys

reply

Yes, Carrington, I love that movie too. Emma Thompson and Jonathan Pryce are flawless in it.

And 12 Monkeys! I could probably replace my guilty pleasure (Quick & The Dead) with that.

reply

Don't know about best, but of the ones I saw, in alphabetical order:

12 Monkeys
Apollo 13
Babe
Braveheart
Casino
Crimson Tide
Dolores Claiborne
Leaving Las Vegas
Nixon
Rob Roy

reply

Well thats a narrow field. Good thing I know how to use IMDB. Toy Story , Clueless, Mortal Kombat, Casper, this was actually pretty good, Billy Madison, Heavyweights..no one has seen this its super stupid fun.

reply

Clueless :D

Another good addition.

reply

@Tim. Welcome to the Dollhouse, Heat, Toy Story, Dead Man, Angels and Insects, La Haine are all 1995 films that I'd rate ahead of the bottom half of your top 10. Bottom line tho' is that 1995 was a solid year with at least 15 real keepers.

reply

I'll have to take your word for it, I've only seen Heat and Toy Story from those you mentioned, but I agree they are great films. Good to get some recommendations though, so thanks! :)

reply

I loved To Die For, and Quasimodo's picks.

I would add
Strange Days
Empire Records
Mr. Holland's Opus
Rumble in the Bronx
The Last Supper

These may not be the "best" but I enjoyed them.

reply

Oh no I meant personal best, or your favourites. I probably could have worded it better.

Now I wish I'd included The Last Supper - another great movie.
