My first 5K run completed🏃‍♂️

I’ve been running nearly everyday since lockdown. First 2 miles, then 2.5 miles now 5K. I hate running, but what can you do, lol.

reply

I ran in High School, in the Army, and many other times by myself. I have not run since the lockdown though.

👍

That is great...soon you will become addicted to the 'runners high', the brains release of pleasure endorphins a few hours afterwards. If I don't get any cardio for two days max I become irritable.

reply

I ONLY RUN WHEN THERES A BASKETBALL IN MY HANDS.

reply

My brain is trying to form a mental picture but I wonder what you look like. Can you help me?

reply

IM 6'6" 200LBS...AND WHILE I AM PUSHING 40 AND WHITE...I CAN STILL BALL PRETTY DAMN WELL.

FRESH!

Isn't it better with a day rest in between runs?

reply

Pre lockdown I would alternate between running and doing weights in the gym. Since lockdown I’ve run everyday except Saturdays whilst working towards 5K. Once I got to 4.5K, just over a week ago, I started alternating again.

Good going Andy👍

Everything hurts, lol.

right on.

i was hoping to train for a 1/2 marathon this summer (that ain't happening, obviously), but i pushed myself a bit too hard and buggered up my knee & had to take a month off. i just started training again about 2 weeks ago & have found it difficult to get my groove back. at the time i stopped in march, i was doing 12-15k runs with a 5:30/k pace. now i'm struggling to do 6k and my pace is a good minute or so longer, which is kind of a drag.

but that's the way it is. i was stupid, i kept pushing myself even though i could feel my knee was getting a bit twitchy, & the results speak for themselves.

so my only advice is: if your body starts to tell you something, listen up.

Use your knee braces.

Rest days are important.

Well done!

Running is bad for you; very high impact. You can swim, row or bike forever, on the other hand.

But stick with the weights. We need both aerobic and anaerobic training for complete fitness. Resistance training will help to prevent osteoporosis in men as well as in women, and helps to lower cholesterol. Bad cholesterol, at least.

reply

Too much running is bad for you, definitely.

Congratulations on your achievement. Savor it!

reply

Cheers, now I’ve got to try and get a little faster.
