High Ratings on IMDB You Can't Understand

Feel free to also include what YOUR rating would be for the overrated movies you list.

reply

The Lion King from 1994 is ranked 8.5.

It's a fine movie but I wouldn't put it higher than 6.5.

reply

Lucky number slevin 7.7

The butterfly effect 7.6

I would give both these movies a 5.0.

I think their high rating is because of their ambition not the execution.

reply

i agree that both movies are not as good as they should be. but have great scope.

reply

I thought the way Star Trek Into Darkness laid on the references to Star Trek 2 was annoying, and the plot got pretty stupid at points. The cast was good, but other than that there's not a lot I really liked about it.

7.7 on IMDB though.

reply

That movie is TERRIBLE! What an insult to Wrath of Khan. Proper rating for it should be 4 or 5 at best.

reply

Yeah, that's where I had it. Gave it a 5, mostly for the cast.

reply

IS THAT THE ONE WITH THE WHITE CHICK?...LIKE THE REAL REAL WHITE CHICK....I LIKED HER.

reply

You're probably thinking of Star Trek Beyond. Her name in real life is Sofia Boutella and in real life she has brown skin. She's part Moroccan I think.

reply

Blade Runner 2049 which at 8.0 is only 1 point behind the original. Compared to the original which is a near masterpiece, 2049 realistically shouldn't be higher than 7.3.

reply

The Color Purple 7.8, Me: 4
Pulp Fiction 8.9, Me: 5 (But maybe I can understand the high rating)

reply

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) has an 8.3 rating. I would give it a 3/10.

reply

And that's being generous. The novel is a work of genius, but this is one of the most overrated movies of all time.

reply

2001 is a masterpiece. I gave it a 10/10.

reply

never!!

reply

The entire top 10, except for Pulp Fiction and maybe The Godfather.

i'm a little shocked that american beauty is in the top 250, given the way that film's reputation seemed to take such a hit over the years. i thought it would have settled down to a very average rating.

& i see that rush from 2013 has a really high rating as well. i know it was a well-liked movie - my brother in law wouldn't shut up about how much he loved it - but i had no idea people dug it enough to earn it a top 250 ranking.

reply

Rush and ford vs ferrari are pretty much the same movie. It's funny how they are right next to each other in the top 250. Both very paint by number.

reply

i liked ford v ferrari a lot, found it to be a really fun throwback to 60s/70s classic male bonding cinema. but it fell out of my head about as quickly as it entered, and it certainly didn't inspire any kind of devotion in me to the extent it would be anywhere near any list i make.

reply

AMERICAN BEAUTY IS IN MY TOP 100 ALL TIME...RUSH IS GREAT,BUT DATED.

reply

i haven't watched it since the year it was released. i'd like to revisit it and see how it plays to me today. bag scene aside, i remember liking it quite a bit.

reply

"American Beauty" is one of a few very good movies made in the last 40 years.
