I think I FINALLY found a place to rent!

It's been over a year since I've been looking. The rental/housing market here is insane.

Where I've been for the past 6 months was supposed to be temporary, somewhere between 1-3 months, and I've been paying about twice what it's worth, which sucks.

The tipping point for me was this whole virus thing and the fact that I have no actual kitchen, just a hot plate, microwave, and share half of a 2nd fridge with the owners, and it's in a laundry room where several people come in and out and wash their possibly virus-laden clothes on a regular basis.

When the daughter/step daughter told me about a week ago she was going to come home from her job and strip off her clothes in my kitchenette and put her clothes in the washer/dryer, while meantime she'd made sure her living area was pristine, but making my food prepping and cooking area the most dangerous part of the household, NOPE.

Not having a kitchen has been a first for me, and a PITA, but sometimes you've got to do what you've got to do, but this is potentially a matter of life or death, so I started looking again for a place.

I found one! Not only is it less than this overpriced place, it's about 3x bigger, with a full kitchen, fireplace, and a shared pool! Love the guy who owns it. It's his former family home.

I can't wait! He's fine with my dog, and everything else. Just a matter of running a check on me and there ain't no way that'll come up other than great. Today he told me he's removing the listing and it's mine, unless something weird happens with the credit/criminal check, and there's no way that'll come up anything other than aces.

Now I just have to tell my current landlord, which sucks, because they have a small business and I know it's a bad time. Then again, they've overcharged me all this time.

Fingers crossed that it all works out for you. Not having a kitchen SUCKS!!!!

Congrats Cat!!! Nice to hear some good news!

That sounds like a solid move. I wouldn’t feel bad about letting your current landlord down. Sometimes you have to do what’s right for you. Hope it works out. 👍

If my roommates moved out I'd be so screwed. We don't act like friends but they feed me supper and are clean and respectful, in essence very good people. I've come to appreciate what stability they have brought to my life, even if it's not ideal.

I am thrilled for you, my friend. I know the recent past has been a slog for you. It’s always so inspiring and comforting to see good things happen for fine people!🎉😺

In Japan each individual buys/rent for himself/herself a compartment to spend the night in, then they wander about the city every day, i don't know where they store they stuff, take bath, other stuff they do somehow.

I am glad you found a place to be comfortable inside for a while.

Congrats! Nothing like a home of your own!

As for the daughter wanting to take off her clothes in your "kitchen", suggest the following process. This is what I do when I come home with clothing that might be contaminated. I keep a stout canvas laundry bag near the door, and the clothes go directly into the bag without touching anything else, or the outside of the bag. The shoes come off and go into a box, and get sprayed with disinfectant, as does the floor I walked on. The stout canvas bag and its contents can then get safely carried through the house, and dumped into the washing machine without touching anything.

Because, dear Catbookss, I want you to get safely to your new home without having to deal with a murder charge. I mean, nobody who understood these things would convict you, but not everyone does understand.

Wonderful news for both you and your dog. I hope you get to stay there for as long as you want, take full advantage of the fireplace and pool and that you cook to your heart's content.

Congratulations, Cat. It's nice to hear a little good news ;)
