First The Toilet Paper, Then Paper Towels, Sanitizer Wipes, Now Diapers & Baby Formula!

We had our laughs over the disappearing TP just a week ago. Did anyone think it would come to what we are witnessing now? What in the hell is going on in this country? Absolute greed and hoarding. Why are Americans so damn selfish? I am one and I’m ashamed of my fellow citizens. *Truckers delivering goods are being attacked.* We are one of the richest countries in the world and the food shelves are going bare!

Diapers and formula? Why? I never thought I would see the day when I couldn’t buy a loaf of bread, eggs, meat, etc. I buy in bulk staple items. I have a freezer full of food so we are doing OK. There are items I do need and have attempted to order the same items from Wal-Not 5 days in a row! Today I had a box of cereal delivered. When I opened the door the delivery gal and I both burst out laughing! Out of 15 items ordered a box of cereal made the cut! 🤣

But, this is getting old real fast! People aren’t working so there’s no income coming into the home. What are people doing who don’t have a freezer full of food? Take-out isn’t an option because there’s no funds to purchase it. Now the babies? The babies are being affected because of the damn hoarders!

Finally Wal-Not has put a limit of 2 on the same item, but what good is that if the items aren’t available? We cut down on the use of paper towels and have started using cloth napkins along with the several rolls of bamboo “paper” towels which can be laundered. I’ve purchased 2 Bidet toilet seats to cut down the use of TP.

I need to sanitize my laundry due to my husband’s leg ulcers and my daughter always has an infection of some sort...we both have IBS. (Good thing I have 3 toilets!) I was using the Lysol Sanitizer Rinse additive, but of course it’s no longer available. I’ve always used Borax to give my detergent an extra boost. I use white vinegar at times to set color (my mom used it to cut the bad sudsing we had at one time from phosphates & to help remove lint). I got to thinking and did research, Borax and white vinegar used together disinfects! I’ve conquered that! I also had 480 baby wipes made from bamboo and natural ingredients delivered yesterday, but they can’t be flushed.

So, folks what products are you having a problem locating? Are you feeling the pinch? BTW, bottled water is disappearing off the shelves! Why? We aren’t preparing for a hurricane! All I can say is, God save us from the stupidity of the hoarders. But, sometimes ya just can’t fix stupid!

*Edit: Someone told me truckers were being attacked for supplies. I cannot locate a source to back that statement. I should not have posted without verifying.

reply

The only thing I'm hoarding are drink mixes, so as to avoid constantly buying soda.

Truckers delivering goods are being attacked.

You're exagerrating there. Admit it.

reply

I wasn’t exaggerating, I just repeated something I should have checked out before posting. They were being barred from washing their hands in certain areas due to the fear they would transmit the virus. People embellish.

reply

Hell, these days if someone decides you looked at them wrong, suddenly they've been "attacked"! It's pretty pathetic. When did victims become cool?

There are Chinese people in Australia who make a tidy profit cleaning out all of the cans of baby formula they can get their hands on and selling it on to China at inflated prices. The stores brought in a limit to how many cans people could buy at one time so now they make multiple trips and buy in groups.

Meanwhile Australian buyers of baby formula are left short. This has been going on for well over a year and the Australian Federal and State Governments do nothing.

reply

IMO, those people should be jailed! China doesn’t produce baby formula? Oh, wait a sec...it’s China! The producers of Chinese drywall, deadly dog food, and...drum roll🥁...COVID-19!,

reply

There was a scandal in China with scumbags deliberately adulterating their locally made baby formula with melamine. Some Chinese babies were killed and 54,000 hospitalized. So now Chinese parents want to buy Australian made baby formula. Can't blame them really.

I really feel sorry for people with babies, if getting formula and diapers are a problem. I'm of a generation that still used cloth diapers - disposables were just coming out when my son was born in 1973, (and they were not very good either.)
I know cloth diapers can still be ordered on line and if I had a baby right now I would switch to those. They would get me through this and later they make great cleaning cloths. Not sure this tip is helpful to anyone here, but if you know someone who is experiencing this problem, you might want to pass it on. I'm sure there is a generation that has no idea what cloth diapers are - lol.

My girls were born in ‘63 & ‘66. Cloth diapers were it...it was a given. I was happy the thick shaped ones came on the market by that time. No more Birdseye which had to be folded! Those who had washers may not have had dryers so a good clothesline was needed. They came out stiff and we were lucky if the birds didn’t drop on them! Cloth diapers are still available, but I’m sure mothers of today would have to be taught how to use and *tend* to them. I would say 2 generations!

reply

Yep - they would be clueless but I know that is what I would be doing if I couldn't get disposables. There is a lot of information about them on line.

$27 for a 20 pack on-line. that is probably a 2 1/2 day supply. The only other thing needed are diaper pins and some waterproof pants. Funny that we are talking about this here, but people may have to think outside the box for a while.

reply

You would have to have at least 4 dozen plus a diaper pail with Borax added to the water. I can just see it now “Eww! What do I do with it now? Throw the whole diaper away?” No, you shake off the loose into the toilet, flush, then continue to hold tight the corner of the diaper to rinse it up and down while flushing. Hang on to it!! Afterwards wring tight, open and drop into the diaper pail with the water & Borax mixture. Launder every other day. Do not use bleach. Use Dreft or Ivory Snow. I think diaper liners are available in today’s times?

Some newer cloth diapers have Velcro closures. But, for those which don’t diaper pins are needed. Before pinning safeguard your baby by putting your fingers between the skin and the diaper, then insert the pin into and out then snap the pin. Next the plastic pants. It’s been 52 years since I diapered this way and writing this out seemed to be like yesterday.

The King residence is locked down and ready. We have been fortunate enough to find everything we need. The shops in 'Sunny' Bournemouth have been fully stocked except for sanitizer and paracetamol. Best of British luck to you all.

reply

Back at ya, Wan King! Whatever paracetamol is?🤔

reply

I forgot, you crazy yanks call it Acetaminophen.

reply

Which it is Wan King! How in the world did you crazy Brits go from Acetaminophen to paracetamol? Forget that! Well, I’ll be darn... Acetaminophen is the generic of paracetamol!

Aubergine = Egg plant. Plus, many others that lead to all sorts of cultural confusion. Hey, I might even start a thread.

reply

Wan King, I would like to see a thread. A loo is a toilet? A bonnet is a car hood? 🤗

reply

Right, I'll do one shortly.

reply

3 weeks ago, before all this, I ordered Amazons 48 boxes of Kleenex. I usually just stick it in the garage for 6 months. I'm so happy I got that before it sold out. Still have 43 boxes left.

I heard about an elderly lady here in Australia who was mugged for her toilet paper. Atrocious behaviour. If there is anyone who doesn't deserve any, it's people like that.

reply

It’s going to get worse and with your asinine no gun law people are going to be sitting ducks!

reply

On that note I'm not talking about this any more.
