Did they really hate the movie?

If someone says after watching a movie that they hated it, but watched it all, could they really have hated it? I can recall on two occasions eventually walking out of movies at theatres because I was so put off by them. So I think it's fair to say "I hated those movies". But it confounds me how someone could have really hated a movie if they were somehow able to watch it all. Maybe I should just call them out as liars or very confused people. Confused with not knowing the difference between disliking a film to absolutely hating it.

I have never walked out on a movie. I paid and therefore I will see it through to the end.

reply

Well, it bothered me in a way to do so. But I absolutely couldn't bring myself to on those two occasions. I figured I've been so disappointed up til now that the movie even if it did somehow get better couldn't redeem itself with me lol.

reply

I'm with you on this. Also, so I can have an informed opinion.

reply

Thats sad. You have to know when your time is being wasted.

reply

I don't go to many anymore. Just three last year.

Maybe since they spent their money, bought snacks And might have been on a date they just rode it out?

I recall being on a couple of dates where the movie was simply terrible and I picked it...talk about awkward!

I distinctly recall scrambling for a next move...Take her to see the full moon over New Rochelle Harbor, or a late night traipse through the woods in Putnam County, or go for an attempted make out session down by The Hudson River...Dating is a ton of work and scrambling for the sexy time is often required!

Dating was exhausting and expensive!

reply

That's true, as I've been there. The only good part of the movie we watched was seeing a womans beautiful bare naked bottom lol. The rest sucked bigtime!

A nice big lady butt garners at least 3.5 Stars from this critic..As long as it's all artistic and stuff of coursešŸ˜ƒ

reply

I will not walk out on movies.

1. I like movies and talking about terrible ones helps to learn about what stories are and critique the errors. That is one reason why we are here. I rarely post about films I love, because there's not much to say.

2. I have seen bad films that have some kind of twist at the end, that changed things or was a great moment.

La La Land was horrible, just very terrible. However, there's a scene at the end that really affected me emotionally and I can't forget. Still hate the movie with passion but loved that scene.

Whether it was in a theatre or at home, I can't remember the last time I stopped watching a movie before it was over. How can I have an opinion on it until I see it to the end?

reply

sure, you can hate something & still sit all the way through it. we can make it through colonoscopies & prostate exams, so we can sit through unpleasant movies. it's not like it's an enormous ask. it's just a few hours of your time.

personally, it's really rare for me to truly hate a movie. i can be bored, indifferent, but almost never driven to hatred. in fact, of the 150 films i saw released in 2019, i think i only truly hated two of them, in that i found it hard to sit through to the end.

i just finished reading a book that i honestly disliked, found onerous to get through. that's a much tougher chore, certainly. i must have put 18-20 hours into reading it, and around the midway mark i began to find it really tough, just a dirge. that's certainly more of an ask, spending so many hours with a book than seeing a film to the end.

i wanted to put it down, but i carried on, mostly because the book is held as being quite a modern classic of its genre by many, and was recommended by a writer i genuinely like & respect.

honestly, i don't really trust my own reaction to it - perhaps i'm just too old, tired & dim to follow it. i just know that i found it exhausting & tiresome & i'm glad i've finished it & will no longer have it in my life.

MY WIFE DOES THAT...WATCHS THE WHOLE FLICK,MAYBE EVEN CHUCKLES OR WHATEVER...THEN ITS OVER AND I HATED THAT....I CALL BULLSHIT....BTW..CURIOUS WHAT 2 FLICKS YOU WALKED OUT ON?

reply

Cabin in the woods
And that horror movie flick starring the now former pro wrestler Kane. I think it was called "See no evil".

reply

LOL! At what point did you bail on Cabin? That movie and I canā€™t hang. The Dr. Mr. Horse ā€œNo sir, I donā€™t like itā€ seal of disapproval.

reply

I watched it I think close 75% of the way through. But was feeling rather disinterested after about 15 minutes of watching it. But I kept on watching hoping it would get better.

reply

You got to just around the point where it goes from 'pretty much shit' to 'total and complete shit'. That is a legitimate bail. I mostly hear glowing reviews for that flick, and for me it's one of those movies I could rant against for hours. Nice to hear from a fellow hater.

reply

Only once, have I been part of a group that walked out of a movie together.

That's the thing, if you go to the movie theater with people, it's hard to get everyone to agree to leave and actually leave, without being a pain to everyone seated near you. And then, there's the hope that it will get better...
