What Is Your Favourite Unknown Horror Movie?

This discussion is about listing our favourite lesser known horror films, If like me you are a fan of the genre, you will likely have sat through a large amount of crappy or cheesy horror flicks, but every once in a while you can come across a film that makes you ask yourself, Why Have I Never Seen This Film Until Now?

So please feel free to mention any film that you feel to be a real find, you can also give a brief description of it (even if its just an IMDb Synopsis) but please try and avoid mentioning spoilers on the film as that will make people less inclined to watch it.

I'll be here forever if I don't put a cap on this, so I'll just name the first one that comes to mind right now.

Anguish (1987)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090644/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Don't read too much about this before you check it out!

Zelda Rubinstein is a telepathically gifted domineering mother who psychically manipulates her son to carve the eyeballs from victims, and then things start getting strange. It's a very dementedly atmospheric, bizarre, one of a kind, special movie that I consider essential for horror fans.

The Objective (2008)

It doesn't have the best reviews, but I think it's a smart movie. It was made by the same person who made the Blair Witch Project and you can see the similarities.

reply

Well, it's not classified as "Horror". It's "Crime Drama". But shit if it ain't horrifying to me!!!! Extremely disturbing!!!!

Snowtown

Snowtown (also known as The Snowtown Murders) is a 2011 Australian biographical crime drama directed by Justin Kurzel in his directorial debut and written by Shaun Grant based on the true story of the Snowtown murders.

Shock Waves (1977)

Peter Cushing is a mad scientist zombifying dead nazis. Pretty absurd, but entertaining if you like that kind of b-movie horror.

reply

Into it 👍

reply

You mean Peter Cushion though right

reply

I have that one on VHS and it looks great. Lol. Those are some creepy Nazis!

reply

💯 BIG POINTS m'boi 💯

Ok I'm resisting the urge to post more of these but here's a cute/fun one.

The Church (1989)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094860/?ref_=ttmi_tt

Though perhaps not an entirely satisfying movie, it has some very, very cool imagery that you won't soon forget.

reply

Ok G- D- it, here's one more, an absolute blast of a very obscure and wild horror-comedy:

The Day of the Beast (1995)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112922/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

A catholic priest and a metalhead must team up, eat psilocybe cubensis, do magick rituals and stuff, to prevent the impending birth of the Antichrist. Don't miss it f'r'serious.

reply

I haven’t seen the last three you have posted and my watch list is growing. That’s why threads like this are so much fun.

reply

For shore, yeah! I haven't seen a lot of these more recent ones. The watchlist overfloweth. I'm keeping an eye on this thread, hope everyone keeps throwing down. I'm trying so hard to not spend all night blurting out a jillion titles here.

It's Alive (1974) - a fun, guilty pleasure, horror flick.

reply

Yuss, and don't forget to wash it down with It Lives Again! and It's Alive III: Island of the Alive!
I mean, "Island of the Alive", dude!

Also all of these make a great pairing with the Basket Case trilogy.

reply

Oh yeah, I forgot all about Basket Case!

reply

I read the book when I was just a kid and it creeped me out. Then I saw the movie and it creeped me out even more.

reply

I'll never forget the scene with the milkman. Wickedly hilarious!

reply

This one really creeped me out as a kid. 😳

reply

Larry Cohen did some pretty good, original horrors.

The Killer Shrews (1959) - another guilty pleasure, drive-in flick.
