What's your favorite Christmas movie?

Die Hard - Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964 TV movie)

The Bishop's Wife 1947

reply

It sounds familiar. Wasn't there a remake of sorts a few years ago?

reply

They remade it in the 90s as The Preachers Wife with Whitney Houston and Denzel Washington.

reply

I didn't know that.

reply

Right. Denzel kept coming to mind but I couldn't get a grip on it.

reply

They should have reversed the roles of Cary Grant and David Niven in that film I think. Strange casting decision.

reply

from wiki

Niven was originally cast as the angel, Dana Andrews as the bishop, and Teresa Wright as his wife. However, Wright had to bow out due to pregnancy. According to Robert Osborne, Andrews was lent to RKO in order to obtain Loretta Young. Koster then brought in Cary Grant, but he wanted to play the angel, so the role of the bishop was given to Niven.

reply

Very interesting ! Cary Grant being a naughty boy again...

reply

Can you elaborate on other times Grant was a naughty boy?

reply

Grant pulled out of 'Sabrina' because he was having some precious personal issues about fancying himself too old for the part so they cast Humphrey Bogart instead. Good enough for you...?

reply

Seems to have been a common theme with Grant. I heard he knocked back James Bond because he felt he was too old and only was willing to do it once so they went with Connery.

reply

I don't do Christmas.

reply

Scrooge!!

reply

Ha bumbug !

reply

But you ring the bells, Quasi. Bells are kinda Christmasy ;) There's a difference in size, but still...

reply

You might think that but don't they also ring a bell for people to bring out their dead...?

reply

It's true. Bells are used in many rituals, Christian and pagan. Since this is both, historically, and you are a professional, per se, at ringing them and having surely rang (rung, ringed?) for Christmas mass {Christ-mass!} many Many times, you being, of course, The Ringer Of The Bells, how could you be against, or at least ambivalent towards Christmas? I beg you, Sir, reconsider.

reply

Hmmmmm................. nah !

reply

Ah well. I thought for sure... hell I was starting to buy it myself lol
I over did it with all the commas, right?

Denis Leary is the man!
Classics are great, we watch them every year for good reason, but I really love the odd, obscure, off-the-beaten-path stuff like this! The movies that make you forget that they're actually holiday flicks.
Good job.

It’s a Wonderful Life

reply

Agree.

reply

Christmas Vacation. And any Hallmark movie with Ashley Williams in it.

reply

Who's Ashley Williams?

reply

Sister of Kimberly Williams. She had a short lived sitcom back in the early 00s, "Good Morning, Miami". Done mostly tv appearances and movies. She's just cute and adorable, nothing particularly remarkable. Her biggest thing maybe is being part of the great movie Indian Summer '93.

reply

I remember Kimberly Williams from According to Jim. I Didn't know she married Brad Paisley! Ashley Williams Is cute, she looks familiar. Great smile. Mom watches Hallmark alot, I've probably seen her there. Pretty sure I saw Indian Summer, but I don't remember any of it.

reply

A Christmas Story, hands down.

"You'll shoot your eye out, kid!"

reply

It's a popular movie ;)
