Doesn't have to be a band - could be a long-time guitarist of a solo artist.

The first name that comes to my mind is Roger Waters, but I'm sure I'll think of others.

All I can think of are deaths, not quit/fired. Maybe David Lee Roth. No disrespect for Sammy Hagar, but Van Halen was just not the same without Roth.

Well death, Alice in Chains , my favorite band. Once Layne Stanley died they should have packed it in. The new guy is terrible.
