Why do people hate certain songs?

i could never understand why people hate certain songs so much, I sometimes feel they hate certain songs because other people hate those songs and are only hating it for attention.

Well, there are several reasons. Some songs are very beautiful and well done, and others are funny. But some people have either personal or legit reasons for hating a song of some kind. I'll list a few:

1.) They had a bad experience when the song was playing.
2.) The song was playing in a film they hated.
3.) They really hated the singer.
4.) The symbolism in the song bothered them or caused negative emotions.
5.) They heard it over and over again on the radio or on tv, and got sick of it.
6.) The song was legitimately awful and no sane person would listen to it willingly.
7.) The song uses repetition and drives people crazy.
8.) They listened to the song to death in their youth and got sick of it over a decade.

Over exposure is one reason why I have hated some songs, just hearing them everywhere.
Another for me is over hyped. Often the song is not as good as they would like us to believe. Often the song is complete crap.

Two songs that fit the above would be Gangnam Style and Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke.

Any music with Auto-Tune can go straight back to hell where it came from

The Stones, Queen, Zeppelin, ACDC, Bowie, The Beatles, all of the perfect pop and rock voices required no Auto-Tune and they nailed it, sold out arenas on the power of their voices

By 2000 every talentless fool could have a hit and it's just unearned fame and crappy music...hell, I dislike most post-Cobain pop and rock music because he feels like one of the last authentic singer/artists to me

Opinions probably vary though

I agree with this 100% and would like to add to this thought. I also prefer music from the 60's - mid 90's because the good bands had another thing in common. Most of them started small playing in bars and clubs perfecting their music over many nights until they could make a record to get radio play. These days labels know all they need is a certain style to fit a formula to sell music. There is not much originality out there any longer.

They sound bad.

I don't understand why people don't believe that large numbers of people can have the same reaction to something.

Especially in the case of pop songs, many do get so much over-exposure that it's not hard for millions of people to be genuinely sick of them.

It's so true that some songs get too much exposure and people get sick of them. I remember when "Achy Breaky Heart" came out. Too much air time and people started to hate it.

"We are the World"- The comedienne Marsha Warfield said, "I liked it the first two, three thousand times I heard it. Then it started to p#ss me off." lol

For myself, I have taken an instant dislike to some songs because I hated the melody, couldn't stand the singer's voice, thought the lyrics were stupid or a combination of all three. "Afternoon Delight" and "Horse with No Name" are two that come to mind right away.

Some songs are just trash. No shame in saying that
