Old IMDB posts imported?

New to the site and, while chiming in on the bogus "latchkey" plot device in Dial M for Murder, was surprised to see my old IMDB post on the subject. Can anybody explain how this is possible? Was very disappointed when IMDB discontinued their forum, so I'm glad of this site.

Funnily enough, this very topic came up not too long ago:

https://moviechat.org/general/General-Discussion/5c79cdd300d5b84adcc1107a/How-old-is-this-site-and-why-was-it-created

The early creators of this website, including its founder, Jim, archived all data it could from IMDb; everything that wasn't deleted due to age and the number of posts on the individual boards.

Ask me anything about MovieChat and I'll be glad to help. We're very friendly here. Meet a lot of good people; have serious talks and goof around too!

You may call me twin or twin A. I've enjoyed this place a little over a year now.

Thanks for the info and the welcome. I'm still curious: did IMDB just turn over everything? Sounds too good to be business.

reply

They didnโ€™t turn over anything. Jim just grabbed it as public domain stuff. He was/is allegedly an attorney. He may be compost now.

This is a cut and past replica webset, which, sadly, describes many of its posters.

reply

Well done, Jim, then. I'll try not to be a "paster/poster". Thanks.

R_Kane is correct. He has his own uncanny way of speaking, not caring what others think of him because of it. He likes to put everyone on the spot ( I am sure you would agree with me, R_Kane. I say that out of mutual respect as your friend since it is true).

If you need anything further, jack, please do not hesitate to ask.

Oh, the MovieChat people made sure to square things over with IMDb through contact. IMDb was reportedly cool with the arrangement, so no real concerns as of now about the content here.

Well, that was uncharacteristically human of IMDB. Most businesses would have not cared or demanded $$$. Hadn't thought to find a replacement forum until I watched Frantic again, and the ridiculous premise of the flick riled me up enough to see if there were any "do you mind?" minds out there; as in "Do you mind? Please don't try to fob off a nonsensical plot on us!!" Found one immediately here, I'm happy to say. Ciao for niao.

Im glad its not just me! I dont know what his deal is but the dude is very rude for no reason whatever. Everybody else here has been very friendly to me.

reply

He sort of grows on you if you have the patience (and if you don't I wont blame you!)
Think of your crankiest uncle who brags about accomplishments that never happened...That's our Kane
Kind of a crabby fixture here
Also, you just got put on his legendary 'ignore' list along with everyone else๐Ÿ˜‚

reply

There was a time when he was very touchy about being addressed as Kane, stressing it was not his family name. Huh? Why would anyone even assume that when we all have usernames for the sake of internet privacy? Plus, in the interest of efficiency, we often use a shortened version of someone's moniker. For example, you're frequently referred to as Shogie and for me it's db, which I don't mind at all.

As for that notorious ignore list of his, it's a wonder he can even follow any conversations on here since so much content would be invisible to him.

reply

I recall him acting really upset about the Kane nickname we all gave him...he really did become a big dud, lashing out at people, bragging about his awesomness...LOL๐Ÿ˜‚

Shame too because he is often intelligent and has reasonable opinions about movies and media in general

I think he's just too cool for the rest of us
Shame really:(

reply

Well, "arcane" does mean understood only by the few in one sense. Let's hope it means also means esoteric, as well.

reply

that is his nickname here.

reply

That's what I figured. Unless, of course, he's actually Robert Kane or the like. Thought perhaps the "kane" part was an homage to Citizen.

reply

Jim is great to have done that. It is sometimes the only way to see someone else mention a movie you saw.

reply

I love looking at the individual Pages after watching the rare movie and I appreciate the archives

I see a lot of my IMDB posts and replies on MC. Actually I like MC more.
