What is the oldest post in MovieChat?

I found a 13 years old post in the TC 2000 (1993) message board. Makes me wonder how far back MovieChat preserved those old IMDb posts. It's like a blast to the past!

Did you find any older post?

I managed to beat that by one year. There is a 14 year old post by sjvickery on the board for "Long Weekend" (1978).

That's a good find!

I was disappointed when I found out that IMDB was removing posts from the past. For some strange reason I thought these comments would be set in stone forever and people hundreds of years in the future would be able to go back and read what and how people wrote and thought back to the past ... but then most of the posts in IMDB, and here, just turn into useless drivel, insults, spam, trolling and arguments.

Like your own posts...

are you sure about that? how did you find out?

I've seen posts from 16 years ago. Isn't that about the time the message boards were launched?

IMDb forum was from 16 years ago? So this may be the oldest post here. There can't be a 17 years old post then. Nice find!

Some of the old IMDb regulars used to brag about joining the boards in the 1990s. I have never seen a post that old. I guess the boards probably had an overhaul as tech advanced and purged some of the oldest posts.

Yes, I also remember talk like that. Apparently the boards were 18 years old at the time of its demise. But I don't remember ever seeing posts that old on the boards. I don't know if there perhaps was a predecessor.

The message boards launched in 1999, which was 20 years before you made your post. I started posting there in 2002.

Wow! Blasts from the past!

There are lots of old posts for the movies that used to be at the top of the 250 like Wallace and Gromit and Shine. It was very bad back then.

how do you search for old posts?

this site could use a nice search function with filters

reply

You can’t search them up by year. Just search boards of old, obscure films.

15 Years!! - Audrey Rose (film) board, “Audrey Rose” thread.

reply

what do you mean, exactly. i'm asking how do you search for posts on this particular board.

where did you search for that, and what was your search string. i'm not seeing it on google.

reply

I didn’t use Google. I used MC’s search engine at the top of this page. Do you not see the search box?

Typed in “Audrey Rose”. Got a list of actresses but clicked “more results” at the bottom of that list.

reply

ok. yeah, that gets to specific movies and thread lists. thanks.

reply

You’re welcome. This site doesn’t have as much data as IMDb but at least they let you navigate around the boards.

reply

Basically you can't. You can only "stumble" onto them.

reply

yeah, or pick an old movie and go to the back pages of the threads.

a nice search would allow searching by film, user, data-range, search keywords

another nice feature would be allow people, at least when they join if not laters, to hook up to their old imdb username, so activity on their old threads would result in a notification.

Google "16 years ago" and "moviechat".
