How many phone numbers do you know?

By memory?

Tonight I met a nice neighbour while out for a walk. She asked me to enter my number into her cell and I had to think about it to make sure I had it right. I've had this number for about a year.

Which made me think about how many numbers I now remember.

1. Childhood number, which is useless info and taking up precious grey matter.

2. Last phone number.

3. More or less current number.

That's it.

I'd be in big trouble if I lost my contacts for some reason 😄

I used to know the numbers of my family members and close friends. Now? Nada.

I only have memorized a couple numbers too haha.

Cell phones pretty much did away with having to memorize numbers.

I don't have a single number memorized. Not even my own. But I'm a hermit that doesn't make or answer calls. I just use my phone for Internet.

I know some six figure numbers of folks who have always had the same number. Apart from that none! Not even my own.

No one I know has the same number from years ago. Not a one. Not even me. Count yourself lucky that some of your friends or relatives still do.

The friend I’m staying with here in Florida has had the same number for over 50 yrs! Very easy to remember.

My previous phone number before getting a more local area code, I'll never forget that one... 487-5769. There is something about that number combo that sticks in the memory.

I hate having to give my number to someone.... I have to pause and make sure I have it right. One time I did mess it up, so now I'm paranoid every time that I'm doing the same switcheroo.

I know my mom's and dad's numbers by heart.

Same here, hate giving out my number because I always fumble and hesitate. It'd be easier if I were the type of person who always brought my phone with me, so I could double check. But I'm not.

My parents' old number, yes, I remember that one too.

Recently I made a mistake while giving my number to someone, and they later told me they had been trying to contact me but couldn't. Usually I'm good with it if I stop and think about it for a second, but I always knew that would happen one day.

And yet, I can still remember my phone number from 20 years ago when I was a little kid clear as day. I don't even have to think about it, it springs right to my tongue. I guess because I was always giving it to my friends in school. I also remember my best friend's phone number from those days.

That's what I'm afraid of: giving out the wrong number to someone who I want to be able to contact me. I have no idea if that's already happened, or not.

You're lucky, or, probably have a better memory than I do. I had two best friends, called them both a zillion times, yet don't remember either of their numbers.

Cell phones, and the interwebs/smart phones are making us dumber. Don't have to remember things when you can so easily contact your friend Google. It's very handy, but I fear we're dumber for it.

We definitely are. In fact I think that's even been concluded in an official study; it seems to me I saw an article about it a while back.

To be sure, there are some good things about it. The internet especially. But cell phones, I've never really taken to them. Nobody wants to TALK anymore; people only text. And I hate how people always go around with their eyes glued to those things. They take them into restaurants and even movie theaters. I don't pay for a movie ticket to see someone's phone waving around a few seats in front of me. And people have gotten into the mentality that they can't be away from their phones for even a minute. I have one out of necessity, but I barely use it. Call me old-fashioned, but I miss the old days before this became so prevalent.

I wouldn't be surprised about an official study concluding it.

I'm like you, girlfriend. Love the interwebs, but haven't taken to cell phones. My smartphone's screen is too small for me to want to use it for anything except the occasional search. Texting is okay, if you only want to send a quick message. Otherwise, I don't get why everyone's so into them.

My phone must be crap, because even when I turn it on speaker, I have a hard time hearing what people are saying a lot of the time. That's in addition from it cutting out. I want my landline and cordless back! I used to like talking on the phone, now I hate it.

Haven't been to a theatre to see a movie for ages, but I've heard a lot of people complain about that, so you're hardly alone.

Right, now there are lots of people who freak out if they happened to have forgotten their cell at home, and don't constantly have it with them.

Like you, I have one out of necessity, and barely use it. Also, tired of getting the spam calls from hotel chains, claiming I'm a former customer and have won a vacation to blah blah. Now I don't answer unless I know who's calling.
