"Double Indemnity" and "Sunset Boulevard" don't actually have anyone looking into the camera though both address the audience through voice over -- prompting the question: does that count?

reply

I would think not.

reply

Sure, why not? George of the Jungle never addressed the audience directly but the narrator and one of the antagonist gets into a argument with each other, breaking characters. The narrator is just a voiceover who's semi self aware of everything going on, even in real time with humorous detail.

reply

I forgot about "George of the Jungle."

How about "Forrest Gump" and "Shawshank Redemption"? Both address the audience through voice over too.

reply

I thought about that too, AngularTurnip, but I'm not sure that narration counts as breaking the 4th wall.
