Great Movies You Can Only Watch Once

I'll need a few minutes to think of this one... "The Battle of Algiers" is one of my favorite movies, but it's difficult to see.

Silence (2016)

Dr Zhivago was very good but once is enough
Schindler's List I have only seen once
Saving Private Ryan also

I consider this a great movie : https://moviechat.org/tt0087553/The-Killing-Fields. It was both stirring and disturbing to me but given the opportunity, and having the right mindset, I'd be up for seeing it again.

once is fine for The Killing Fields

Million Dollar Baby. Back in the day, I saw it once by myself. Then a friend was getting together a group to see it and have dinner afterward. I was hesitating; said I'd like to go, and it's a great movie, but wasn't sure I could put myself through all that a second time.

I decided to go, taking all those punches again. At the end, when the house lights came up, my friend looked over at me, exhausted, and asked "How could you go through this twice?"

reply

I agree, once was enough.

I can think of two immediately; 'Requiem for a Dream' and 'Irreversible'. I thought both were truly great movies but really, once was enough.

reply

Agree with every word...they are potent and nasty stuff

Gangs of New York

I rewatched this a couple of weeks back and really enjoyed it
Production values and acting were top notch imo
Did you feel it was a bit too long or got too dramatic (it did both i admit)
Anyway to each their own i guess

reply

Its been too long, I only saw it in the theater. I just recall it being great but knowing that I never wanted to see it again. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I tend to not care for the kinds of subject matters Scorcese loves.

My favorite Scorcese movie, by far, is Bringing Out The Dead, which many consider to be one of his worst movies, or one that sticks out as being different from most of his movies.

I do agree on that, too, it felt like Scorcese was trying to emulate Oliver Stone in Bringing Out The Dead, except he did a better job than Stone would have.

My family informed me that it was brutal and unsettling...glad i stayed behind for that one

So true ! I watched it during Christmas one year. Maybe a mistake, maybe not. It left me in a somber mood is all I can say.
