Formatting tags are messed up (Update: Not just spoiler tags)

I'm having problems with the spoiler and quote tags. I don't know what I'm going wrong.

For example (Citizen Kane):

[q u o t e][s p o i l er]Rosebud is the sled.[/spoiler] We find this out at the end of the movie.[/quote]

When I use a bunch of spoiler tags at once, it covers up whole sentences.

It reads:

*this entire sentence is covered up* Rosebud is the sled.[/spoiler] We find this out at the end of the movie.

Damn, now it's even doing it on THIS POST! Ugh. Is there a way to fix this? Confused.

Edit: What's even worse, the stupid quote is extending beyond the intended. This is very frustrating.

Edit: If I'm not making any sense. Let me explain. The tags are not opening and closing properly. I put a spoiler at the beginning of the post, it will bypass the spoiler tags and cover up the whole thing.

I read your post before you update it and only the spoiler was covered.

There's a new Star Wars coming out. This time the evil villain is a country singer. [spoiler]His name is Garth Vader.[/spoiler]

Hm, seems to work for me.

works fine for me

[spoiler]rosebud[/spoiler]

Weird. Seems to do this when I do heavy tagging. Now, I'm gonna try it with the bold tag to see if it does the same thing.

This part is bold.[/b] This part is not bold.

[b]This part is definitely bold.
If this part is bold, the tags are messed up.

I've been having formatting issues, too, when I:

1) use tags within tags (e.g., italic text within quoted text)

and

2) use multiple instances of the same type of tag (e.g., spoiler text followed by regular text, followed by another instance of spoiler text).

Formatting only looks right if I keep the formatting down to one instance of each type of tag per post, and not nested within any other type of formatting.

There must be a WYSIWYG plugin for this.

Although I d o appreciate the archaic early web thing about it all.

The problem that always bothered me is that you can't quote more than once. If you quote more than one instance, the entire page becomes the quote.

It's always been this way and I just ignore it.

From what I recall, it's the same thing with bold and italics tags, too, that they can only be used once.

I want to make sure:
bold 1[/b]
Untagged text.

italics 1[/I]
Untagged text.

[b]bold 2

Untagged text.

[I]italics 2

Untagged text.

Edit: Oh that's right, you can only do it once, but it uses the first and last tags. I made sure these were tagged properly when I edited, too.
