For me Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson. Just started reading it. It's very smart.

The Sven Hassel's novels...have you read them?

They are about world war 2.It's an accurate version told by the author himself.Interesting reading...i strongly recommend them.

The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tokien. It would probably work best as cable series like Game of Thrones.
