Too many ads

MC has now gotten too ad-heavy. Woke up this morning and now there's a big square ad at the top, another one below trending, and a pop-up that you can't click away at the bottom.

I was okay with the way it was before, but this is too much.

reply

Agree. Some of the ads I'm seeing border on pornographic "meet your mate" type stuff. Gross. I can't really post very well from my phone anymore because the ads cover the message field.

reply

I haven't seen ads bordering on the pornographic, but,

"I can't really post very well from my phone anymore because the ads cover the message field."

That's really bad. If people have trouble posting, it'll drive them away. I'm on a desktop and while I can post all right, it's still a problem.

reply

Indeed, now half of my screen is occupied by them...those in charge of this site can't do anything for stop this?

reply

You could try emailing Jim about your concerns. I told him about some suspicious ads a while ago and he fixed it (for the most part). And recently I mentioned how an ad was getting in the way of Trending and he fixed that, too.

I'm not having any trouble posting on mobile atm. What browser are you using?

reply

I've been using "Perfect Web" for years because it most closely resembles Firefox, which is what I was using on my desktop at the time. I use Chrome on my desktop now though. I can't seem to get the site to display the particular kind of ads I referred above, but the next time I do, if I do, I'll take a screen shot.

reply

I gotta agree, way too many ads.

reply

a have a great ability to ignore them

reply

Wish I could do the same, but the huge top ad loads slowly and even if it didn't, it makes using the "jump to" link more difficult.

The one that's now permanently stuck to the bottom of my browser window gets in the way of reading posts.

No way to ignore these things.

reply

There are a lot of ads.
But they have brought me much pleasure over the last couple weeks.

reply

Me too, until today :/

Now they're too intrusive and an annoyance.

reply

I hadn't really noticed them until recently.

Some times the top ads are ads, sometimes they are a black rectangle other times they are ads
that I can only see a sliver of the top.

I'm on a laptop. What do you use ?

reply

I'm on a desktop.

Sometimes I see black squares at the top, before the ads load.

I've never complained about the ads here before, because until today they were tolerable, plus we were having some fun with them.

reply

The bottom ads have a recommended for you link. If you click the minus button they will shrink.
At least for me. Of course it only works on the page you're on .

reply

Are you contributing to the cost of this site?
I don't know about you...... I'm not!
I like this site. After the IMDb shut down I have a place to come to talk about movies.
I can discuss various topics with great people on General Discussion.
When I start to contribute financially to this site I will complain about those ads!
Once again, Are YOU contributing to the cost of this wonderful site?????
Apparently, I am not having the problems of blocking things out that you and others seem to be having.

reply

Sorry if my post sounded bitchy. If you are having real problems with ads blocking your view of posts, I would be concerned and frustrated too.
My previous post has more to do with being tired of people constantly complaining about little things that can be ignored or things that a person can put up with. The ads are sometimes annoying, but I honestly do not have a problem with this stuff.
People seem to have all sorts of problems with little things. I just feel that if this site is working ok and if we are able to post, why complain?
If the ads help with the costs of running this site, I really do not mind.

reply

I don't mind the ads either. I get why.
I also know there are several people that have problems with them. Not that the ads exist, just physical issues.
I also know that Jim has fixed a lot of them. I'm confident that he will address the rest of the issues for everybody else.

reply

Well yes, it did, a bit. Thanks for the apology, which I happily accept. I was a bit taken aback by your response, as I assumed you'd know by now I've never before complained about the ads or anything else, and have often urged patience for those eager to have whatever changes they want to see.

Until yesterday, the ads never bothered me either, and I often said so, citing the same thing as you: if they help with the costs of the site, they were fine by me.

But, when a site's ads start to interfere with the usability of the site, or it becomes too ad-heavy, there's a tipping point where it'll drive people away. If I go to a site that's new to me, and it's ad-heavy, I won't be back. I don't want to see that happen here, and doubt you do either.

I definitely do not want that to happen. I really do apologize for my misunderstanding. I like you. We have had good exchanges. I'd like to keep it that way,
I honestly have no problems with these ads. Since I don't, I had no idea that other people do. My bad! I do get testy with people complaining too much about everything on this site. There is a whole lot of that as you well know.
I am sorry though, because I enjoy your posts. I still will! Even if we disagree!
Now that we have this cleared up, and I hope we have.... are we GOOD?????

reply

Thank you, MissMargo. I like you too and enjoy our exchanges, and reading your posts. We're definitely good :)
